Distance Medley Relay Sweep Starts Season Strong

The Buckeyes began the 2024 indoor season on Friday at the Rod McCravy Memorial.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track & field team began the 2024 indoor season on Friday at the Rod McCravy Memorial, hosted by the University of Kentucky.
The Buckeye women earned their first victory of the season in the distance medley relay (11:36.10), run by Annie Allen, Gia Napoleon, Carina Napoleon and Akemi Von Scherr. The Buckeye men completed the DMR sweep with Evan Hughes, Jaxson Eckert, Alex Kenish and Alex Dediu running a 10:09.79.
- Ohio State had two men make the weight throw finals with Hayden Tobias finishing fifth (18.62m / 61'1.25") and Carlos Aviles finishing sixth (18.12m / 59'5.5"). On the women's side, Lacey Stringer led the way by finishing seventh (17.41m / 57'1.5").
- In the 300m, Fatouma Conde (38.67) and Chanler Robinson (38.70) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, for the women. The Buckeye men had three finish in the top-10: Mason Louis in third (33.44), Antonio Hanson in ninth (33.93) and Noah Carmichael in 10th (34.21).
- Kayla Watson (6.04m / 20'1.5") and Atinuke Shittu (5.62m / 18'5.25") finished third and eighth in the women's long jump.
- The Buckeye women had three finish in the top-10 in the pole vault, all clearing 3.82m / 12'6.25". Morgan Fijalkowski and Sophie Fong tied for sixth after clearing on their first attempt and Abbey Kuhn tied for 10th by clearing on her third attempt.
- In the men's high jump, Reign Winston cleared 2.12m / 6'11.5" on his final attempt to finish fourth.
- Shohaan Singh finished seventh (1:20.58) in the men's 600m.
- The Buckeye women also finished fourth in the distance medley relay (12:06.43) with Olivia Oiler, Lillian Eckels, Amelia Figler and Sydney Paul on the B squad. The men's B squad made up of Will McGraw, Eli Hitzhusen, Nathaniel Streby and Cooper Citro were third (10:20.74).
- The Ohio State women had four finish in the top-seven in the 60m prelims to qualify for tomorrow's semifinals, all winning their respective heats. Leah Bertrand (7.26) had the fastest time of the prelims with Columba Effiong third (7.35), Nya Bussey fifth (7.40) and Conde seventh (7.45). The men sent three to the semis in Nazzio John (eighth – 6.71), Marcus Brown (ninth – 6.77) and Braxton Brann (16th – 6.82).
- The Buckeyes had a total of five qualify for tomorrow's 60m hurdles semifinals. On the women's side, Marcia Sey was fifth (8.27) and Olivia Powell was ninth (8.44). On the men's side, Brann was fifth (8.01) and Leo Uusimaki was 10th (8.28).

The Buckeyes wrap up opening weekend at the Rod McCravy Memorial on Saturday. Field events begin at 11 a.m. with the men's pole vault and women's shot put, while the track events start at noon with the semifinals of the women's 60m.
