
Baseball Comes from Behind to Beat Dayton, Sweep Season Series

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeyes (20-17) earned an exciting 8-7 come-from-behind victory over Dayton (12-25) on Wednesday night to sweep their three-game season series against the Flyers.
Game Recap
- Trey Lipsey led the game off for the Buckeyes, singling to right field in the bottom of the first. Kade Kern was next up to bat; he doubled to left center, scoring Lipsey to give Ohio State the quick 1-0 lead. Kern advanced to third on a throwing error by the Dayton pitcher; he crossed home plate on a sac fly from Tyler Pettorini to put the Buckeyes ahead, 2-0.
- The Flyers answered in the top of the third, scoring four runs to take the lead away from Ohio State, 4-2.
- Dayton added two more runs in the fourth to take a four-run advantage, 6-2.
- In the bottom of the seventh, the Buckeyes began to chip away at the Dayton lead. Mitchell Okuley was walked to lead off the inning and advanced to third after two balks from the Dayton pitcher. A groundout from Lipsey scored Okuley to put Ohio State within three, 6-3. Kern singled up the middle, followed by a double up the middle from Pettorini to put them both in scoring position. Marcus Ernst drew a walk to load the bases. Cole Andrews was next up; he was hit by a pitch, sending Kern home to cut the Dayton lead to two, 6-4.
- The Flyers added one more run in the top of the eighth frame to get back ahead of Ohio State by three, 7-4.
- Josh McAlister walked to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning for the Buckeyes and he moved to second base on a wild pitch. With two outs on the board, Pettorini and Kern were walked to load the bases. Next up was Matthew Graveline, who drew the fourth straight walk to plate McAlister and leave OSU trailing by two, 7-5. Ernst came up big on the next play; he singled to right field to drive in two runs and tie the score, 7-7. Ernst stole second and Andrews was walked to load the bases once again. Henry Kaczmar stepped up the plate and drew a four-pitch walk to send the game-winning run home.
- The Flyers went down in order in the top of the ninth and the Buckeyes earned the one-run win.
Buckeyes by the Numbers
- Kern led the Buckeyes with two hits and three runs scored.
- Ernst had a team-high two RBIs.
- Jaylen Jones started on the mound. He fanned four and allowed four runs on five hits in a 3.0-inning no-decision.
- Nolan Clegg (1-0) earned the win on the mound; he struck out one and gave up one hit in one-third of an inning pitched.
- Jonah Jenkins earned his second save of the season. In 1.0 inning pitched, he struck out one and did not allow any hits.
