
Buckeyes Dominate Zips, 15-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeyes (16-15) used four homeruns to help them earn a dominant 15-1 victory over Akron (13-19) in seven innings on Tuesday.
Game Recap
- Tyler Pettorini hit a two-out single in the bottom of the first for OSU’s first hit of the game. He then stole second. Cole Andrews was walked to put two runners on, but Akron got the final out to keep the teams scoreless after one inning.
- The Buckeyes had a strong defensive showing in the top of the second. After a lead-off single, the runner was picked off at first. Another runner got on, but was caught stealing for the second out of the inning. Jaylen Jones caught the third batter swinging to end the top half.
- Hunter Rosson walked to lead-off the bottom of the third and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Trey Lipsey. Rosson stole third and Matthew Graveline walked to put runners on the corners. Back-to-back RBI singles from Pettorini and Andrews put the Buckeyes in the lead, 2-0. Pettorini and Andrews then executed a double steal, putting them both in scoring position. Josh McAlsiter drew a walk to load the bases with just one out on the board and Henry Kaczmar up to bat. Kaczmar hit a sac fly to score Pettorini and give the Buckeyes a 3-0 advantage over the Zips. Mitchell Okuley singled to center field to drive in two runs and put Ohio State ahead by five, 5-0.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Graveline singled to lead off the inning and Andrews was walked; both advanced bases on a wild pitch. McAlister stepped up to the plate next, blasting the ball over the fence in right center to give Ohio State a commanding 8-0 lead.
- The Buckeyes were dominant in the fifth frame. Rosson walked to kick things off, followed by a single from Lipsey. Rosson and Lipsey both advanced on the throw. Graveline then homered to left center, sending three runs across to put Ohio State ahead by double-digits, 11-0. Kaczmar also had a three-run shot in the fifth, giving the Buckeyes a 14-0 lead over the Zips.
- Akron scored once in the top of the sixth on a solo homerun, but the Buckeyes led by 13, 14-1.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Hank Thomas came in to pinch hit and hit the fourth homer of the game for the Buckeyes to put them back ahead by 14, 15-1.
- Ohio State allowed just one Zip to get on base in the top of the seventh as they clinched the 15-1 victory in seven innings.

- Graveline and Pettorini led the Buckeyes with two hits each.
- Kaczmar led the team in RBIs with four, while Graveline and McAlister each had three.
- Andrews, Graveline and McAlister each scored three runs.
- Pettorini led the Buckeyes in steals with two swiped bags.
- Jaylen Jones started on the mound. He fanned three and gave up just two hits in 2.0 innings pitched.
- Jonah Jenkins (4-2) earned the win. He struck out one and allowed two hits in 2.0 innings pitched.
