
No. 11 Buckeyes Drop 3-2 Heartbreaker at Lindenwood Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 11 Ohio State (11-5, 4-2) lost a hard-fought 3-2 match at Lindenwood (6-7, 4-2) Saturday at Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.
The Buckeyes dropped the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match 19-25, 25-23, 25-16, 22-25, 20-22.
Jacob Pasteur led the Buckeyes with a career-high 25 kills. He also led the Buckeyes with 17 digs. Noah Platfoot was credited with a match-high 57 assists. Freshmen Shane Wetzel and Jack O’Riordan each had career highs in kills with 13 each.
How it Happened
Set 1
Ohio State started strong with a 4-0 lead but the Lions responded to tie it at 6-all. A 5-0 run by Lindenwood made it 8-6 Lions. The Buckeyes responded with a 4-0 run to go on top 10-8. The Lions tied it at 11-all after a 3-1 run before taking a 12-11 lead. The run increased to 6-1 for the Lions in building a 14-11 advantage. Lindenwood led 15-13 at the media timeout. The Lions increased their lead to 20-16 before Ohio State called timeout. The Buckeyes were not able to rally and fell, 25-19 in the first. Lindenwood hit .171 while the Buckeyes hit .059. Kyle Teune led the Buckeyes with three kills.
Set 2
Again, Ohio State started hot with a 5-1 lead in the second. Lindenwood stayed withing striking distance at 10-8 Buckeyes. The Lions tied it at 12-all after a 3-0 run. Ohio State led 15-14 at the media timeout but the Lions responded with a 3-1 run to take the lead at 17-16. After a 3-1 Ohio State run, the Buckeyes took a 20-19 lead on a Jack O’Riordan kill. The teams continued to trade points and after the Lions took a 23-22 lead, Ohio State called timeout. The Buckeyes then scored the next three points to win the set 25-23. Ohio State hit .343 while Lindenwood connected at a .207 rate in the second. Jacob Pasteur led with seven kills after the first two sets.
Set 3
The teams were knotted at 3-all with each team posting 3-0 runs early in the third. The Buckeyes used a 4-0 run to go on top 7-5 on a Pasteur kill. Ohio State went up 13-9 after a 4-0 run, which led to a Lindenwood timeout. The Buckeyes went up 15-10 and after a 4-1 run built a 17-11 advantage. Lindenwood called another timeout after Ohio State went up 19-13. The Buckeyes then finished off the set with a 6-3 run after the final Lindenwood timeout to win 25-16. Pasteur led both teams with 15 kills to go along with 11 kills. Ohio State hit .467 in the third in building a 2-1 lead in the match.
Set 4
The set opened with each team trading punches until the Buckeyes used a 4-0 run to take an 11-8 lead. The Lions came right back with a 4-0 run of their own to take a 12-11 lead. Lindenwood took a 15-13 lead before the media timeout. The Lions built an 18-15 lead before an Ohio State timeout. Ohio State responded with a 3-1 run to make it 19-18 Lindenwood. The Lions then called timeout and went back up 21-18 and before evening the match at 2-all with a 25-22 win. The Buckeyes outhit the Lions .344-.300 in the set. Pasteur put his match total to 20 kills to lead both teams. Jack O’Riordan was next with 13.
Set 5
In the race to 15, Ohio State built the first lead of more than a point at 5-3 after a Pasteur kill. A 5-1 Buckeyes run made it 8-4 before a Lindenwood timeout. The Lions chipped away leading to an Ohio State timeout with the Buckeyes leading 9-8. Lindenwood tied it at 10-all after a 4-1 run. The Lions called timeout after Ohio State went up 12-10 on a Justin Howard kill and Lindenwood error. Leading 14-13 after a Lindenwood 3-1 run, Ohio State called timeout. The Lions then tied it at 14-all and the set went into overtime. Lindenwood called timeout after the Buckeyes took an 18-17 lead on a Lion error. The teams went back-and-forth until the Lions prevailed 22-20 for the 3-2 win in the match.
