
Buckeyes Win 17 Events at Maryland Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's and women's track and field teams competed outdoors for the first time in two years this weekend at the Maryland Invitational in College Park, Md. Competing against the host Terrapins as well as Penn State and Rutgers, the Buckeyes had a fine meet with 17 total victories along with the exciting return of Sade Olatoye.
One of the outstanding Ohio State students and athletes, Olatoye returned to the field this weekend for her final outdoor season and blew away the competition in the hammer throw with a toss of 68.52 meters to take first. Olatoye is a Big Ten Wayne Duke Postgraduate Scholarship award winner, a six-time Big Ten champion, a multiple All-American and an NCAA champion.
Fittingly, Olatoye was the first Buckeye to win outdoors. But there were many, many more Buckeye victories.
- Shaun Miller won the high jump on Friday with a leap of 2.08 meters. Amaya Ungarte was second in the women's high jump, leaping 1.82 meters.
- Kainnan Ramsey led a 1-2-3 Ohio State finish in the 100, winning in 10.68 with Adrian Curry (10.69) and Eric Harrison (10.83) second and third, respectively.
- Yanique Dayle posted an 11.79 100 to win with Nya Bussey third in 12.11.
- Tevin Brown took first in the 5,000 in 14:38.27 with Nick Regas and Peter Hayden fourth and fifth, respectively, in a field of 19 runners.
- Nick Miller led a 1-2-3 Buckeye sweep in the 1,500 by winning in 3:55.02 with Tom Sullivan (3:58.47) and Jack Wickert (3:59.26) coming in second and third.
- Donnie James was first in the 400 with a time of 47.93 and he was the first two-time winner outdoors as he also won the 200 in 21.26 with Tyrese Fajardo second in 22.02.
- Alexus Pyles won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 13.69.
- Andrea Kuhn won the 3,000 meters in 9:55.35.Ohio State went 1-2 in the women's 400 with Alyssa Marsh taking first in 54.89 and Bryannia Murphy second in 55.05.
- Freshman Chanler Robinson won her first outdoor race as a collegian, winning the 400 hurdles in 1:00.18.
- Ohio State went 1-2-3 in both the shot and the hammer as NCAA indoor champ Adelaide Aquilla won the shot with a throw of 17.47m and Divine Oladipo won the discus with a throw of 52.94m.
The women also too first in the 4×100-meter relay and the men won the 4×400-meter relay.
The outdoor season continues next week when the team travels to Jacksonville, Fla., for the North Florida Invitational.
