
Buckeyes Competing at Big Ten North Florida Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's and women's track and field teams are in action this weekend in Jacksonville, Fla., at the Big Ten North Florida Invitational. The event, hosted by the University of Iowa at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium, features all of the Big Ten teams. North Florida will play host to the NCAA East Preliminaries in May.
The two-day event began Friday and will conclude Saturday evening.
Friday Results
This is a tremendously competitive field and similar to a Big Ten championship. Ohio State student-athletes came in with a total of 17 men's and women's outdoor wins earned at the meet last week at the University of Maryland, and they are off to a fine start in Florida. Some of the highlights:
- Junior Divine Oladipo is now two-for-two this outdoor season. She won the open shot put competition with a season's-best throw of 17.03m / 55-10 ½ after winning the discus last week at Maryland.
- Oladipo's competition partners, NCAA champions Adelaide Aquilla and Sade Olatoye, were third and fourth in the invitational shot put with throws of 17.38m / 57-0 1/4 and 17.21m / 56-5 3/4, respectively.
- Olatoye also placed first in the invitational hammer throw by nearly 16 feet over the runner-up. Olatoye's winning throw travelled 66.03m / 216-7.
- Senior Anavia Battle won the 100-meter preliminaries with a time of 56.42. Yanique Dayle joins her in Saturday's final by placing sixth in 11.58.
- The 100 on the men's side was also won by a Buckeye: Senior Eric Harrison in 10.39 with Kainnan Ramsey and Adrian Curry also qualifying for Saturday's finals. Ramsey went 10.51 and Curry 10.60.
- Senior Mary Figler was third in the invitational 800 with a time of 2:10.86.
- Sophomore high jumper Shaun Miller cleared 2.07m/6-9 ½ to place third in a field of 22 competitors.
- Freshman Chanler Robinson took fourth in the invitational 400 with a time of 1:00.96.
- Freshman Amaya Ugarte leaped to a fifth-place finish in the 25-competitor high jump with a jump of 1.72m / 5-7 ¾.
- Senior Donnie James was sixth in a 20-person field in the invitational 400 with a time of 48.63.
- We had a nice 4-5-6 finish in a 24-runner field of the invitational 800 led by Frank Hayes (1:49.36) and followed by Nick Miller (1:51.08) and Cameron Cooper (1:51.25).
- Sophomore Carlos Aviles was sixth in a 21-man shot put competition with a toss of 16.54m.
- And Nick Regas was sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:27.64.
A full day of competition is slated for Saturday; 34 total men's and women's events.
