COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team welcomes in-state opponent Cincinnati at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. The Buckeyes (16-12, 2-1 B1G) return home after winning a road series at Rutgers last weekend. The Bearcats (10-16, 3-3 AAC) travel to Columbus after falling in two of three games at home vs. Tulane at Marge Schott Stadium.

- Ohio State is 16-12 overall and 2-1 in Big Ten play. The team opened Big Ten play last weekend at Rutgers winning two of three games in Piscataway, N.J. The Buckeyes also have wins against Seton Hall, FGCU, Oral Roberts, Bethune-Cookman, Lipscomb, Northern Kentucky, Hawai’i and Toledo. Ohio State played its first 16 games on the road.
- The 2019 Buckeyes return 15 letterwinners from the 2019 NCAA Tournament team that finished with a 36-24 overall record. Key players returning include 2018 second team All-Big ten honoree Dominic Canzone, third team selection Conner Pohl and 2018 All-Big Ten Freshman standout Dillon Dingler.
- The team welcomed 15 newcomers to the spring roster. Eleven Buckeyes have made their debuts, including nine freshmen.
- Ohio State is led by ninth-year head coach Greg Beals. He is 277-215-1 overall at Ohio State and holds a 520-417-1 career coaching record. Beals has guided the team to NCAA Regional appearances in two of the last three years. Beals hit the 100-win mark in Big Ten play last weekend vs. the Scarlet Knights.
- The Buckeyes have won eight of their last 10 games. The team held a 6-2 record during its opening nine-game homestand March 15-27.
- Ohio State is hitting .275 with 45 doubles, seven triples and 27 home runs.
- The Buckeyes lead the Big Ten in hits (267), triples (7) and second in runs scored (159), RBI (147) and home runs (27).
- Brady Cherry is leading the Big Ten in hits (40) and total bases (74). He hit .349 in the month of March with a .627 slugging percentage.
- Dominic Canzone is tied for the league lead with 29 runs scored. He is third in the league in hits (35). Canzone batted .357 in the month of March. Canzone is currently on a career-high 24-game reached base streak.
- The OSU pitching staff has combined for a 4.07 ERA in 252.0 innings pitched. The staff has struck out 232 batters, which is second-most in the Big Ten.
- Canzone, Pohl and Dingler were each named to the Big Ten Preseason Watch List. Ohio State was picked to finish fifth in the Big Ten.
- The Buckeyes are 69-43-2 all-time vs. Cincinnati. The Scarlet and Gray are 3-2 in the last five meetings vs. the Bearcats.
BIG TEN PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Redshirt freshman left-handed pitcher Seth Lonsway was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. Lonsway, from Celina, Ohio, earns his first career weekly award. Lonsway was dominant on the mound in his B1G debut, throwing a complete game shutout with a season-high 12 strikeouts in a win at Rutgers last Saturday. He became the first Buckeye to throw a complete game shutout since 2015.

Ohio State is 369-191 all-time at Bill Davis for a fine .659 winning percentage. Ohio State is 187-116 vs. the Big Ten Conference at home.
A LOOK AT CINCINNATI
The Bearcats (10-16, 3-3 AAC) are hitting .227 as a team with 27 doubles, eight triples and 11 homers. Cincinnati is 48-for-56 in stolen bases this season. The Bearcat pitching staff has combined for 5.24 ERA with 215 strikeouts in 230.0 innings of work. Jeremy Johnson is hitting .264 with 13 steals in 16 attempts, while Joey Wiemer is batting .262.
RUTGERS RECAP
The Scarlet and Gray got off to a good start in league action last weekend with a road series win at Rutgers March 29-30 in Piscataway, N.J. The Buckeyes won game one, 5-3, in 11 innings highlighted by a four-hit game by Matt Carpenter. Junior left-handed reliever Andrew Magno claimed his first career win after throwing three innings of relief work. Burhenn, from Indianapolis, Ind., threw his third straight quality start today in his Big Ten debut. He worked seven innings and limited the RU bats to two runs, one earned, scattering six hits with two walks and five strikeouts in a no decision. The two teams split a doubleheader March 30. Seth Lonsway tossed a complete game shutout with 12 strikeouts in his B1G debut, while Brady Cherry homered twice in the twinbill.
NOTING THE HOMESTAND
- The bats hit .321 and slugged .531 during the nine-game homestand March 15-27.
- The team averaged 7.2 runs per game.
- The bats powered 16 doubles, six triples and 12 homers.
- Seven different Buckeyes hit .300 or better.
- Brady Cherry batted .457 (16-for-35) with six doubles, two homers and nine RBI. Conner Pohl hit .394 and Dominic Canzone collected a .382 average with two doubles, a triple and three homers.
- The OSU pitching staff struck out 74 in 81.0 innings of work.
- Andrew Mango claimed three saves, while Joe Gahm and Will Pfennig registered their first saves of the year.
- Bayden Root earned two wins last week in four appearances out of the bullpen. He struck out 10 in 7.2 innings.
