Late Lead Not Enough as Buckeyes Fall to Kent State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team (5-10) was defeated by Kent State (12-4), 8-5, Tuesday at Bill Davis Stadium.

Game Recap

Kent State took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, scoring on a passed ball and an RBI single.
The Buckeyes got on the board in the bottom of the third inning after Lee Ellis smashed his first home run at Bill Davis Stadium this season, cutting the Golden Flashes' lead to one, 2-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, Mason Eckelman led off with a single to right field and advanced on a Kent State error. A sacrifice bunt from Alex Bemis advanced Eckelman to third, and he scored a sacrifice fly from Dane Harvey to tie the score, 2-2.
In the bottom of the sixth, Henry Kaczmar shot a double to left field to lead off the inning. With two outs on the board, Bemis hit his first home run as a Buckeye, scoring Kaczmar and giving Ohio State a two-run lead, 4-2.
Kent State grabbed a run in the seventh inning after a sacrifice fly to cut the Buckeye lead to one, 4-3.
In the bottom of the eighth, Kaczmar went yard for the first time since rejoining the Scarlet and Gray. His solo home run put the Buckeyes back ahead by two, 5-3.
Kent State, however, mounted a ninth-inning comeback, scoring five runs off of a two-run home run and a three-RBI double to take the lead, 8-5.
In the bottom of the ninth with one out, Maddix Simpson singled to right field, but he was left on base as the Golden Flashes came away with the win.

Buckeyes by the Numbers

Bemis and Kaczmar led the Buckeyes in hits with two each.
Bemis led the team in RBIs with two.
Ryan Zamora fanned three in 2.0 scoreless innings of relief.
Andrew Edrington (0-1) took the loss on the mound. He gave up two runs on two hits in less than an inning pitched.
