Buckeyes Walk Off Spartans in 10 Innings

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team (26-22, 15-12 Big Ten) secured a series win over Michigan State (19-30, 11-19 Big Ten) with a 3-2, 10-inning walk-off win on Sunday afternoon at Bill Davis Stadium.

- An RBI double in the top of the first inning gave the Spartans an early 1-0 lead over the Buckeyes.
- Henry Kaczmar had a single and Dane Harvey had a double in the bottom of the first inning, but Ohio State remained scoreless.
- In the top of the fourth, Michigan State hit a solo home run to take a 2-0 lead.
- Grant Mangrum hit an infield bunt single to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning for the Buckeyes. With two outs, Kaczmar singled to right field to put two runners on, but they were left stranded.
- With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Maddix Simpson singled to right field. A double from Mason Eckelman sent Simpson home to cut the Michigan State lead in half, 2-1.
- In the bottom of the eighth, pinch hitter CJ Reid led off single to left field. Alex Bemis reached base on a fielder's choice. A double to left center from Furcht plated Bemis, who turned on the jets, to tie the score, 2-2.
- Eckelman led off with a double in the bottom of the ninth inning and advanced to third on a fly out from Mangrum, but he was stranded and the game went into extras.
- Reliever Luke Carrell and the Buckeyes worked out of a no-outs bases-loaded jam in the top of the 10th inning to keep the Spartans off the board.
- In the bottom of the 10th, Bemis reached base on a fielding error by the Spartans and he stole second. With two outs, Harvey was intentionally walked to put two runners on base. Simpson stepped up to the dish next and he drove a single into center field to send the winning run home and clinch the series win for the Buckeyes.
- Eckelman, Kaczmar and Simpson led the Buckeyes with two hits each.
- Furcht, Simpson and Eckelman each batted in one run.
- Starter Pierce Herrenbruck struck out four and gave up one earned run on five hits in a 5.0-inning no-decision.
- Lincoln McVicker struck out two and gave up four hits in 3.0 scoreless innings of relief.
- Carrel (1-0) earned the win on the mound. He struck out one and did not allow any hits or runs in 1.0 inning pitched.
- The Buckeyes close out their home schedule against Wright State on Tuesday, May 12 at 6 p.m.
