Ohio State tossed shutouts in each game of the series

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State softball (15-18) completed its first conference sweep of the year, with a 10-0, five inning victory over the Michigan State Spartans (13-20). The run rule was the second of the series. The Buckeyes now have a winning conference record, improving to 5-4 with the win.

The offense plated ten runs on eight hits and two home runs. Both Taylor Cruse and Kiki Estrada would go yard, both driving in three RBI apiece on the day. Sami Bewick also went 3-3 at the plate, driving in and scoring three runs.

Jenna Molk (12-10) picked up her fifth straight win in as many starts, allowing just one hit over four innings pitched. The Ohio State defense did not allow a single run for the duration of the Michigan State series.

How it Happened

Ohio State took its third first-inning lead of the series on a Taylor Cruse two-run shot to center that scored Sami Bewick.
The Buckeyes exploded for six runs in the second inning, scoring on an Abbie Wilhelm Walk, a two-RBI Bewick single, a Taylor Cruse foul-out, and a Kiki Estrada home run that scored Bewick to take a 8-0 lead.
Bewick drove in her third RBI of the day in the bottom of the fourth, scoring Wilhelm from first with a double in the gap. Estrada then scored Bewick with a single down the left field line, giving Ohio State its winning 10-0 margin.
Jenna Molk tossed four innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one. Lexi Paulsen threw an inning in relief, busting out of a bases loaded fifth inning to blank Michigan State.

What's Next?
Ohio State will hit the road for a Tuesday contest against Bowling Green (15-14), scheduled for 4 p.m. The Buckeyes will return home to Columbus the next day for a 2 p.m. matchup with Dayton (14-12) before hitting the road once more for a weekend Big Ten series with Minnesota (13-21, 5-4).
