
Dynamic Buckeyes Pick Up Big Win over No. 7 Loyola Chicago

COLUMBUS, Ohio –  The No. 18 Buckeyes (11-9, 6-6) defeated No. 7 Ramblers (13-6, 7-3) in four sets on Thursday night at the Covelli Center.

The first set was taken by Loyola Chicago with a score of 25-23. Ohio State went on to win the second set, 25-19. It was a battle for the third set with the Buckeyes coming away with it, 25-20. The Buckeyes dominated in the fourth set with a score of 25-16. Â

Shane Wetzel led the team in kills with 15. Stanislaw Chacinski followed close behind adding 13 kills, and Daniel Hurley added 12. Â

Eliel Salva-Torres led the Buckeyes in blocks with four and two service aces. He also put up six kills and hit .600 in the match.

Drew Hudson had 12 digs in the match. Daniel Henwood Rodriguez added six.

Set 1 (25-23, LOY)
Loyola Chicago started the first set with a small lead, 4-1. A huge block by Stanislaw Chacinski and Eliel Salva-Torres kept the Buckeyes close, 4-3. Aaron Grimm's first touch of the match was a kill out of the middle, 6-5. The Ramblers went on a 5-1 run for the 11-6 lead. A quick kill by Salva-Torres put Ohio State within two-points of the lead, 12-10. Shane Wetzel added a kill to put the Buckeyes within one-point of the Ramblers, 13-12. A consecutive setter dump by Daniel Henwood Rodriguez and service ace by Salva-Torres tied the set at 14-all. Another kill by Wetzel preserved the one-point gap between the teams, 18-17. Loyola Chicago went on a short 3-1 scoring run for the 21-18 lead. Another kill by Salva-Torres kept Ohio State within two-points, 22-20. Chacinski had a service ace of his own to put the Buckeyes within one-point and force the Ramblers' timeout, 24-23. Loyola Chicago took the first set, 25-23.

Set 2 (25-19, OSU)
Chacinski started the second set strong with a kill, 1-0. Daniel Hurley preserved the lead with two kills of his own, 3-2. Back-to-back kills by Grimm and Chacinski kept the Buckeyes' advantage, 6-5. Another kill by Hurley extended Ohio State's lead, 11-9. Consecutive kills by Chacinski forced a timeout by the Ramblers, 14-11. A block by Grimm and Chacinski gave the Buckeyes a four-point advantage out of the timeout, 15-11. Another massive kill by Salva-Torres forced a second Loyola Chicago timeout, 18-13. A service ace by Hurley extended Ohio State's lead, 22-17. Salva-Torres and Chacinski followed that with another block for the 23-17 lead. Chacinski gave the Buckeyes their first set point with another kill, 24-18. Wetzel won the set for Ohio State with a kill, 25-19.

Set 3 (25-20, OSU)
Wetzel put the Buckeyes on the board to start the third set, 1-all. A kill by Chacinski gave Ohio State a two-point advantage, 7-5. Hurley put down a huge kill for the 11-7 lead. Another kill by Wetzel forced a timeout by Loyola Chicago, 13-9. The Ramblers started to close the scoring gap, 17-16 Buckeyes. Salva-Torres and Wetzel put up a huge block to take back a three-point lead, 19-16. Brady Jones had a service ace that extended Ohio State's lead to 20-16. A great set from Henwood Rodriguez to Chacinski for the kill continued the lead, 22-18. Another kill by Salva-Torres out of the middle gave the Buckeyes their first set point, 24-19. Ohio State took the third set with a score of 25-20. Â

Set 4 (25-16, OSU)
Wetzel put the Buckeyes on the scoreboard with a kill, 3-2. A kill by Hurley gave Ohio State back the lead, 5-4. Chacinski extended the Buckeyes' lead with another kill, 8-6. A kill by Grimm from the middle kept Ohio State in front by four-points, 11-7. Hurley added another kill for a four-point lead, 15-9. Another kill by Chacinski pushed the Buckeyes to a nine-point lead, 20-11. Salva-Torres followed that with another service ace for a 10-point lead, 21-11. A pair of kills by Hurley preserved the 10-point advantage, 23-13. Wetzel added another kill for the first set point of the fourth set, 24-15. The Buckeyes won the set, 25-16.
