Ohio State is back in action next weekend when it hosts the Ohio State Tournament
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State (8-16, 2-4 Big Ten) rallied from an early 3-0 deficit but eventually dropped a 12-6 decision to Purdue (22-6, 3-0 Big Ten) in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Bittinger Stadium in West Lafayette, Ind.
Ohio State's six hits were provided by six different players, as Skylar Limon and Abbie Wilhelm each had triples. Kiki Estrada drove in two runs – both coming via sac flies – and three pitchers saw action in the circle: starter Jenna Molk along with relievers Lorin Boutte and Kennedy Kay. Kay was effective in her 2.1 innings of action, allowing just one hit while returning seven of the nine batters that she faced.
How The Runs Were Scored
- Purdue grabbed a 3-0 lead in the home half of the first inning thanks to run-scoring hits from Anna Moore and Julia Gossett. The Buckeyes, however, would chip away and eventually plated three runs without recording a hit over the next two innings.
- Two Purdue errors and an Estrada sac fly tied the game at 3-all in the third inning.
- The Boilermakers would surge ahead 7-3 with four runs in the bottom of the third inning – keyed by a pair of two-out RBI singles – and then took a 12-4 lead with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- Ohio State extended the game thanks to a Reese Cullen pinch-hit RBI double with two outs in the top of the fifth inning. Estrada would then close out the scoring in the sixth on her second sac fly of the afternoon.
