
Ohio State Falls Short Against Western Michigan

Buckeyes will face Purdue next on the road Friday through Sunday
Despite the loss, seven Buckeyes recorded hits, with Abbie Wilhelm, Hailey Lang, Sami Bewick, Skylar Limon, and Taylor Cruse each recording two or more. Bewick went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI, while Hadley Parisien drove in three runs and hit a home run.
How It Happened
- The Buckeyes took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a long single in the left-center gap that scored Hailey Lang from second. A sac-ground ball by Hadley Parisien and an Abbie Wilhelm two-run RBI single gave Ohio State a 4-0 lead through two innings.
- Western Michigan took a 6-4 lead in the top of the fifth via a Bella Duncan three-run home run, a Caitlin Tighe double that brought in two, and a Tristen Head sac-fly.
- Ohio State retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth via a Sami Bewick sac-fly that scored Lottie Landmesser and run scoring hits by Skylar Limon and Taylor Cruse. Hadley Parisien then followed up with a two-run shot to end the fifth with Ohio State in front 9-6.
- Bella Duncan brought in two more Western Michigan runs in the top of the sixth with an RBI single. The Broncos tied the game at nine apiece via a Haleigh Smith sac-ground ball.
- Western Michigan took a 11-9 lead in the top of the seventh with a Liliana Janeczcko sac ground ball and a dropped third strike.
- Reagan Milliken put the Buckeyes within one in the bottom of the seventh, scoring Abbie Wilhelm with an RBI double. The Buckeyes fell short with the winning run at first base.
- Jenna Molk got the loss for Ohio State, throwing two innings in relief, striking out three and allowing zero earned runs. Kennedy Kay got the start in the circle, tossing 4.1 innings and allowing four earned runs.
- Casey Fazzini got the win for Western Michigan. Ava Geyer got the start, throwing 1.2 innings while allowing four earned runs.
Ohio State will look to get back in the win column on the road against conference opponent Purdue (18-6), with a three-game slate scheduled Friday through Sunday. The Buckeyes will then face Butler (7-9) on the campus of Earlham College in Richmond, Ind., on March 17 before returning home to host the Ohio State Tournament.
