No.12 Ohio State Completes Season Series with Marauders, Win 3-0

Buckeyes return to MIVA play next week at Queens
Ohio State opened the season against Central State to open the season series with a 3-0 victory in Columbus.
The Buckeyes were led in kills by Brady Jones with eight in a well-balanced Ohio State attack. Jack O'Riordan was next with seven while Ian Nolte and Tyler Tharpe each contributed six.
Setter Daniel Henwood Rodriguez led both teams with 29 assists. Drew Hudson was the team-leader in kills with five.
Ohio State will play one more nonconference match during the regular season. The Buckeyes will travel to Pittsburgh March 25 (6 p.m.) to face Penn State in a neutral-site contest against the Nittany Lions.
Set 1 (25-18, OSU)
Tyler Tharpe and Brady Jones started the first set strong with a massive block to tie it at 2-all. A kill by Jack O'Riordan gave the Buckeyes a 5-4 lead. Eliel Salva-Torres' kill put Ohio State up 7-5. A huge triple-block by Jones, Tharpe, and O'Riordan kept the Buckeyes in the lead, 9-8. A service ace by Jones kept the lead, 13-12. Stanislaw Chacinski extended the lead with a service ace of his own (18-15). Ian Nolte's massive backrow kill built a 20-16 lead for the Buckeyes. O'Riordan added another service ace for Ohio State for their first set point at 24-18. The Buckeyes finished the first set with another triple-block by Tharpe, Jones, and Nolte to win 25-18.

Set 2 (25-20, OSU)
Another huge kill by Tharpe on the right-side put Ohio State on the scoreboard first, 1-0. Jones followed with another kill that kept the Buckeyes in the lead, 3-1. Another backrow kill by Nolte kept Ohio State in the lead, 9-6. Daniel Henwood Rodriguez and Jones followed that up with a block to extend the Ohio State lead, 10-6. Salva-Torres and Nolte put up another massive block before the media timeout was called, 15-10. Another kill by O'Riordan kept the momentum going for the Buckeyes to make it 20-16. Back-to-back kills by Nolte pushed Ohio State to their first set point at 24-19. Nolte sealed the second set with another kill, 25-20.

Set 3 (25-17, OSU)
O'Riordan tooled off the block for a 1-0 lead to start the third set. A great dig by O'Riordan set Christian Teresi up perfectly for the kill on the right-side for a 3-0 lead. A successful challenge extended the Ohio State lead at 5-0. Another kill by Teresi kept the Buckeye lead going, 6-1. A service ace by Teresi helped build a substantial lead for Ohio State, 9-2. Another massive right-side kill by Teresi made it 15-6 before the media timeout. A kill by Jones from the middle gave Ohio State the ball back after a small Marauder run, 16-10. Teresi's service ace extended the Buckeyes' lead at 20-12. Henwood Rodriguez had a kill of his own to extend the Ohio State lead to 22-13. Another kill by Henwood Rodriguez from the right-side pushed Ohio State closer to set point, 23-15. The Buckeyes won the set 25-17 after a kill by Jones from the middle.
