No. 13 Ohio State Sweeps Purdue Fort Wayne

Buckeyes Head to Illinois to Face Lewis and Loyola Chicago
COLUMBUS, Ohio— Following a clean sweep of No. 8 Ball State on Thursday, Ohio State (9-4, 4-1) continued its MIVA conference win streak with a 3-0 win over Purdue Fort Wayne (8-4, 3-2) on Saturday.
Ohio State started strong by taking the first set 25-22. The Buckeyes went on to win sets two and three with scores of 25-23 and 25-15.
Ohio State was led in kills by Eliel Salva-Torres with 10. Salva-Torres also led the Buckeyes in blocks with six total.
Daniel Henwood Rodriguez led the Buckeyes with nine digs. Sophomore Drew Hudson followed close behind adding eight.
Shane Wetzel put up a service ace in the second set that tied him at fifth in career aces with Robbie Klein totaling 122.
Set 1 (25-22, OSU)
Ohio State took an early lead to start the first set, 3-2. A backrow attack from Daniel Hurley kept the lead, 4-3. A huge block by Shane Wetzel and Eliel Salva-Torres gave the Buckeyes a four-point advantage that forced the Mastodon's first timeout, 9-5. Purdue Fort Wayne went on a short 4-1 run before Salva-Torres' kill from the middle gave Ohio State the ball back, 13-10. Grimm blocked an attempted setter dump to extend the Buckeyes' lead, 15-11. Another kill by Salva-Torres gave Ohio State the largest lead of the set, 19-13. Daniel Henwood Rodriguez had a kill of his own that continued the lead for the Buckeyes, 21-16. Another kill by Grimm gave Ohio State their first set point, 24-20. The Buckeyes took the first set 25-22 after a long rally.

Set 2 (25-23, OSU)
A service ace by Wetzel gave Ohio State the early lead, 2-1. The Mastodons tied it at 5-all with a couple of service aces. Salva-Torres took back the lead for the Buckeyes with another kill from the middle, 7-6. Stanislaw Chacinski ended a long rally with a kill from the outside, 8-7. A massive kill from the backrow by Chacinski extended Ohio State's lead, 12-10. Salva-Torres and Wetzel put up another huge block that kept the Buckeyes' lead, 13-12. Ohio State possessed the lead going into the media timeout, 15-14. Another kill by Wetzel extended the lead for the Buckeyes, 18-16. Henwood Rodriguez added another service ace for Ohio State, 19-16. Hurley had another kill from the outside that forced a Mastodon timeout, 22-18. Purdue Fort Wayne kept it close, 23-22 Buckeyes. Ohio State won the second set 25-23 after another huge kill by Wetzel.

Set 3 (25-15, OSU)
The Mastodons took a small 3-1 lead to start the third set. A massive backrow kill by Chacinski tied the set at 5-all. Grimm and Hurley put up another huge block that gave the Buckeyes a 7-5 lead. Wetzel extended Ohio State's lead with a kill from the right-side to end a tough rally, 8-5. A kill by Salva-Torres forced another Purdue Fort Wayne timeout, 11-6. Hurley and Salva-Torres continued the Buckeyes' lead with a massive block 13-6. Wetzel tooled off the block for another kill, 15-8. A great set by Henwood Rodriguez and kill by Chacinski extended the lead, 17-11. A massive swing by Salva-Torres from the middle gave Ohio State a six-point advantage, 20-14. A great play by Henwood Rodriguez to Salva-Torres continued the Buckeyes' lead, 22-15. Ohio State won the third set with a massive solo block by Salva-Torres, 25-15.
