COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team (4-2) fell to Louisiana Tech (6-1), 9-3, on Saturday in its third game of the Grind City Classic in Memphis, Tenn.

Game Recap

To lead off the top of the first inning, Miles Vandenheuvel reached base on a Bulldog error and then advanced to second base. He moved to third on a groundout from Mason Eckelman, but he was stranded.
A two-RBI single for Louisiana Tech in the bottom of the first gave the Bulldogs the early 2-0 lead.
A sacrifice fly and an RBI groundout for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the second inning extended their lead, 4-0.
In the top of the fourth, Lee Ellis was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and then he stole second base, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. A single from Noah Furcht sent Ellis home to put the Buckeyes on the board and cut the Bulldog lead to three, 4-1.
Louisiana Tech, however, added on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth frame, scoring on an RBI double, a wild pitch and an RBI single to take a 7-1 lead.
Vandenheuvel singled down the left field line to lead off the sixth inning. A single from Eckelman scored Vandenheuvel to put the Buckeyes within five runs of the lead, 7-2.
The Bulldogs reclaimed a six-run lead, 8-2, in the bottom of the sixth after an RBI groundout.
In the top of the seventh, freshman Steven Cavaco came in to pinch hit and he led off with his first collegiate hit, a double to right field. Cavaco advanced to third on a passed ball, and he scored on a groundout from Dane Harvey to cut the Louisiana Tech lead back to five, 8-3.
The Bulldogs once again got ahead by six, 9-3, in the bottom of the seventh, after scoring on an RBI single.
With two outs in the top of the eighth, Henry Kaczmar doubled to right center, but he was left on base.
The Buckeyes were retired in order in the ninth as they fell to the Bulldogs, 9-3.

Buckeyes by the Numbers

Vandenheuvel and Kaczmar led the Buckeyes with two hits each.
Eckelman, Harvey and Furcht each had one RBI.
Jude Fisher (1-1) took the loss on the mound. He struck out a career-high five and gave up six runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings pitched.
Ryan Zamora, Luke Carrell and Sahil Patel each struck out two in appearances out of the bullpen.
