COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 13 Ohio State (3-1) returns to the Covelli Center to take on the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters (3-1) Friday (7 p.m./B1G+). The match ends a five-match homestand to open the 2026 season.Â
The Buckeyes begin a stretch of five-of-six matches away from home starting with a trip to California to face No. 1 UCLA Jan. 29 and No. 4 Southern California Jan. 30. Both games start at 10 p.m. ET and will be live-streamed on B1G+. Ohio State then opens the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association season Feb. 5 at first-year member Northern Kentucky. A home match against Central State Feb. 8 sets up a pair league road matches at Queens Feb. 13-14.Â
After facing No. 20 George Mason (W, 3-0) and No. 2 Long Beach (L, 1-3)Â last week, Ohio State battles Top 20 foes four times in five outings with the California trip on the horizon.Â
 Â
What was originally scheduled as a two-game series against Lincoln Memorial was reduced to a single game because of potential hazardous weather conditions in Columbus Saturday.Â
Â
- Ohio State stands firm at No.13 in the AVCA poll after their first loss of the season to Long Beach last weekend.Â
- The Buckeyes are 4-0 against the Railsplitters since their first matchup in 2019, only losing two sets over those four battles.Â
- Following a team vote, senior Shane Wetzel and sophomore Drew Hudson were named captains for the 2026 season. Hudson is the first sophomore to earn captain honors in the history of the program.Â
- Hudson recorded a career-high 12 digs in the win over George Mason and added 10 more against Long Beach.
- Senior Shane Wetzel currently ranks 13th in Ohio State history with 1,065 kills for his career. He and sophomore Stan Chacinski were named to the 2026 preseason All-MIVA squad.  Â
- Wetzel and Chacinski both were recognized as 2025 AVCA Honorable Mention All-Americans after earning 2025 postseason Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association honors. In addition, the MIVA coaches voted Ohio State in the No. 2 position in the league 2026 preseason poll.  Â
- In his seventh season, Kevin Burch is closing in on his 100th win as Ohio State's head coach with a 99-63 record. Securing the win on Friday would give Burch win No. 100 to go with one regular-season MIVA title, a pair of league tournament championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances.Â
