
Dunne Scores a Hat Trick in No. 2 Buckeyes’ Win at No. 13/14 Minnesota State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team, led by a four-goal performance from Joy Dunne, defeated No. 13/14 Minnesota State, 7-4, Friday night at Mayo Clinic HSEC in Mankato, Minn. The Buckeyes (20-3-0, 14-3-0 WCHA) improve to 3-0-0 against the Mavericks (11-11-1, 5-11-1 WCHA) this season.

Ohio State took an early lead in Friday's game and despite Minnesota State tying the game twice, the Buckeyes always had a response to earn the three league points in the series opener in Mankato.
Junior forward Joy Dunne, who lined up as a defender for the third straight game, led the team with four goals. She recorded a natural hat trick with her first three goals of the day, scoring the team's fourth, fifth and sixth goals. Junior forward Jocelyn Amos also recorded a multi-goal game with two goals in the first period and tied Dunne with a team-high four points.
The Buckeyes held Minnesota State to just 15 shots on the day. Ohio State finished 65 percent from the faceoff dot, led by Amos with 17 wins and a .680 win percentage. Jordan Baxter also recorded over 10 wins at the dot with 13 wins for a .650 win percentage.
Genny Klein improved to 4-1-0 on the year with 11 saves in the game.

How it Happened
- Petrie was the first to light the lamp, scoring 2:39 into the game. She recovered the puck on the backcheck of a Maverick at the top of the Minnesota State zone and sent a wrister past the glove of goaltender Hailey Hansen for the early Buckeye lead.
- Minnesota State tied the game at 5:32, but Amos scored back-to-back goals for the Buckeyes to put the team ahead 3-1 with under seven minutes to play in the opening frame. Both of Amos' goals came off rushes into the Maverick's zone on shots from the slot.
- Ohio State went into the first intermission with a one-goal advantage after the Mavericks added a goal with 1:17 to play in the first period.
- Minnesota State scored first in the middle frame, tying the game at three goals each at 3:56.
- The Buckeyes responded two minutes later with a pair of goals from Dunne. The goals were scored within a minute of each other, at 6:09 and 6:45, to give Ohio State the 5-3 lead after two periods.
- Dunne continued her scoring spree, and completed the natural hat trick, with a goal at 5:50 in the third period.
- Minnesota State scored on the power play at 6:58 before Dunne added another goal at 9:38 for the final tally of the game.
- Dunne's four goals against Minnesota State tie her single game career high. Friday night's game marked the second time this season she has scored four goals.
- Amos' four-point game was a career-high tying effort. Her two-goal performance tied her season high.
- Svensson's point streak is now nine games long. With three assists in the contest, she moves up to fourth in season points by a Buckeye rookie category with 41 on the year.
- Emma Peschel was back on the ice for the Buckeyes for the first time since November and added an assist in her return.
