Game Recap
- In the top of the first inning, Illinois plated four runs to take the lead, 4-0.
- In the bottom of the third inning, Nick Giamarusti hit a 389-foot home run to put the Buckeyes on the board. Trey Lipsey reached on a fielder's choice and Matthew Graveline hit a single to center field to put runners on the corners. Tyler Pettorini followed with an RBI single to right field to send Lipsey home to put the Buckeyes within two, 4-2.
- Illinois scored one run in the top of the fifth inning to extend the lead to three, 5-2.
- With one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, Lipsey hit a double to right field. Graveline was up next, and he drew a walk. Pettorini grounded out to the second baseman, which advanced the runners into scoring position. Mason Eckelman sent two runs across on a single to center field to cut the Illini lead to one, 5-4.
- The Illini added two runs in the top of the sixth inning off a home run to extend their lead to three, 7-4.
- In the top of the seventh inning, Illinois plated two more runs to take a five-run lead, 9-4.
- In the bottom of the seventh inning, Lipsey hit a single to the second baseman. Graveline and Pettorini hit back-to-back singles to load the bases. Miller reached on a fielder's choice which added a run, cutting the lead to four, 9-5.
- Illinois scored eight runs in the top of the eighth inning to make the score 15-5.
- In the bottom of the eighth inning, Will Carpenter drew a lead-off walk. Sal Mineo walked, then Lipsey hit a 383-foot home run to clear the bases. Graveline struck out but reached on a dropped third strike, then Pettorini hit a single to center field. Eckelman grounded out to the third baseman, putting both runners into scoring position. Graveline scored on a wild pitch to put the Buckeyes within eight runs of the lead, 17-9.
- In the top of the ninth inning, the Illini scored one run to take a nine-run lead, 18-9.
- With one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Carpenter hit a double to left center. However, he was left stranded as Illinois came away with the win, 18-9.
- Lipsey and Pettorini were tied for the team-high in hits with three each.
- Lipsey led the Buckeyes with three RBIs.
- Jake Michalak (1-7) took the loss on the mound. He struck out four and allowed five runs on three hits in 4.1 innings pitched.
- The Buckeyes wrap up the 2025 season against Illinois on Saturday, May 17 at 1:00 p.m. Ohio State will celebrate Senior Day at 12:35 p.m.
