Buckeyes Earn Extra-Inning Walk-Off Win Versus Illinois in Season Finale

Prior to the start of the game, the Buckeyes honored the class of 2025: Trey Lipsey, Nick Giamarusti, Ryan Miller, Will Carpenter, Jaylen Jones, Tyler Pettorini and Spencer Hill.
Game Recap
- In the bottom of the second inning, Miller put the Buckeyes on the board with a 450-foot home run. With two outs, Giamarusti followed with a home run of his own to give the Buckeyes a 2-0 lead over the Illini.
- The Illini plated six in the top of the third inning to take a four-run lead, 6-2.
- With two outs in the bottom of the third inning, Pettorini hit a single to right field, then stole second base. Mason Eckelman drew a walk, then Miller was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Maddix Simpson hit a bases-clearing double to cut the lead to one, 6-5.
- In the top of the fourth inning, Illinois scored one run to get ahead by two, 7-5.
- In the bottom of the fourth inning, Lipsey hit a single to center field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Matthew Graveline plated Lipsey with a single down the left field line to put the Buckeyes within one, 7-6.
- Illinois scored two runs in the top of the fifth to take a three-run lead over the Buckeyes, 9-6.
- To lead off the bottom of the fifth inning, Miller hit a double to left field then advanced to third on a fly out from Carpenter. Giamarusti hit his second home run of the day to cut the lead back to one, 9-8.
- In the bottom of the ninth inning, Pettorini reached base on an error. Miller hit a single to right field, putting runners on the corners. Maddix Simpson hit a sacrifice fly to deep center, which plated Pettorini to even the game, 9-9.
- The Illini added one more run in the top of the tenth inning to regain the lead, 10-9.
- Giamarusti drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the tenth inning then, with one out, Lipsey walked. A double steal put both runners into scoring position, Pettorini stepped up to the dish next and came up big, hitting a walk-off double down the right field line to give the Buckeyes the senior day win, 11-10.
- Miller led the Buckeyes with three hits.
- Simpson led the team in RBIs with a career-high four.
- Gavin Kuzniewski had a career-high in strikeouts with five and allowed nine runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings pitched.
- Douglas Bauer (3-1) earned the win on the mound.
