Buckeyes Win Tuesday Night Game Against Akron

Game Recap
- In the bottom of the first inning Trey Lipsey led off with a single to left center, Matthew Graveline was then hit by a pitch. Lipsey crossed home on a single to right field from Mason Eckelman. Will Carpenter singled to left center, advancing Eckelman to third. Ryan Miller scored Eckelman with a single to right field to put the Buckeyes up, 3-0.
- With two outs in the bottom of the second, Lipsey was hit by a pitch and was plated from a Graveline 370-foot two-run home run. Pettorini drew a walk then stole second. Two more walks for Eckelman and Simpson loaded the bases. Carpenter was hit by a pitch, scoring Pettorini to extend the Buckeye lead to six, 6-0.
- Akron got on the board in the top of the fourth inning after a sacrifice fly to cut the Buckeye lead to five, 6-1.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning with one out, Sal Mineo drew a walk then stole second. Reggie Bussey was hit by a pitch and a double steal put both runners into scoring position. Lipsey cleared the bases with a 397-foot three-run home run to extend the Buckeye lead to eight, 9-1.
- In the top of the seventh, Akron plated three runs to get within five of the Buckeyes, 9-4.
- In the top of the eighth inning, the Zips scored one run to come within four runs of the Buckeyes, 9-5.
- In the bottom of the eighth inning, Eckelman walked and advanced to third on back-to-back wild pitches. With two outs, Carpenter drew a walk. Miller then reached base on an error, which also sent two runs home to put the Buckeyes ahead, 11-5.
- Zak Sigman closed out the game for the Buckeyes. Although two baserunners got on in the bottom of the ninth, Ohio State held them from scoring to secure the 11-5 win.
- Lipsey led the team with two hits and three RBIs.
- The Buckeyes combined for five swiped bags. Mineo led the team with a career-high two steals.
- Douglas Bauer (1-1) earned the win in his first career start. He struck out three and gave up one run on three hits in 4.0 innings pitched.
- Sigman struck out three and allowed just two hits in 2.0 innings tossed.
- The Buckeyes host Toledo on Wednesday, April 22 and welcome Rutgers for a three-game series April 25-27.
