Game Recap
- The Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after scoring on an RBI groundout.
- Six runs crossed for the Spartans in the bottom of the second inning to extend their lead over Ohio State, 7-0.
- Reggie Bussey had the first hit of the game for the Buckeyes with an infield single to lead off the third inning. Trey Lipsey was then hit by a pitch to put two runners on. With one out, Tyler Pettorini drew a walk to load the bases. A sac fly from Will Carpenter sent Bussey home to put the Buckeyes on the board. Mason Eckelman then singled up the middle to score Lipsey and bring the Buckeyes within five runs of the Spartans, 7-2. Pettorini scored on a Michigan State error as Ohio State continued to chip away at the Michigan State lead, 7-3.
- In the bottom of the third, the Spartans added four more runs to ger ahead, 11-3.
- Bussey led off with a single to right center in the fourth inning, followed by a double down the right field line from Lipsey. Bussey scored on a groundout from Matthew Graveline to cut the Spartan lead back to seven, 11-4.
- An RBI double for the Spartans in the bottom of the fifth extended their lead to eight, 12-4.
- With one out in the top of the sixth, Bussey collected his third hit of the day, but there was nothing else doing for the Buckeyes in the inning.
- The Buckeyes got two runners on in the top of the seventh after a Pettorini single and a walk for Maddix Simpson, but they were stranded.
- The Spartans scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh to take a 13-4 lead and a bases-loaded walk sent the game-winning run across as the Spartans took game three of the series, 14-4, in seven innings.
- Bussey went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Buckeyes.
- Graveline, Carpenter and Eckelman each had one RBI.
- Jake Michalak (1-4) took the loss on the mound. He struck out three and allowed seven runs on three hits in 1.2 innings pitched.
- The Buckeyes begin a 10-game homestand when they host Akron and Toledo on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, at Bill Davis Stadium. Both games are set for a 6:00 p.m. start.
