Rubber game of the three-game series set for tomorrow at noon
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Penn State took the second game of this weekend's three-game series by a final count of 11-2 in five innings on Saturday afternoon and Baird Field in State College. The loss for the Buckeyes drops their record to 32-10-1 and 7-5 in Big Ten play. Penn State improved to 20-19 (6-6 Big Ten).
Today's result sets up Sunday's series-deciding rubber game that is set to begin at noon. It will be streamed live on B1G+. Live stats will be available on the schedule page of OhioStateBuckeyes.com and social media updates at @OhioStateSB on X.
The Buckeyes scored the first two runs on the game in the top of the first on solo home runs from Hadley Parisien and Jasmyn Burns, respectively, but Penn State broke the game open with a five-run third inning and four more in the fourth.
How The Runs Were Scored
- Ohio State's 100th home run of the season came in the top of the first inning off the bat of lead-off hitter Hadley Parisien. The solo shot – her 14th of the season – gave the Buckeyes an early 1-0 lead.
- That blast was followed three batters later by Burns, who took a 3-1 pitch from Penn State's Abigail Britton and deposited it over the right field wall. The homer was Burns' 20th of the season, which ties her with Lilli Piper (2018) for the most in single-season history.
- Penn State would chip away at the early 2-0 deficit with a run in the bottom of the first inning and then another in the home half of the second to tie the game.
- In the bottom of the third, the Nittany Lions loaded the bases and after getting a run-scoring single to go ahead 3-2, Meaghan Ricks' grand slam put the Nittany Lions in front 7-2.
- Penn State added four runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning on a three-run Brooke Klosowicz and error that allowed Ricks to score.
Buckeye This and That
- Senior Kami Kortokrax played in and started her 200th consecutive game in a Buckeye uniform. Nicole Paloney holds the program record with 236 games played from 1994 through 1997. Kortokrax is the 19th player in program history to reach 200 or more games played.
- In addition to the two home runs by Ohio State – which brings the Buckeyes' total to 101 on the season – Reagan Milliken and Taylor Curse also added singles. Cruse now has three hits in the series (a home run, a double and a single).
- Kennedy Kay got the start in the circle and went 2.1 innings before being replaced by freshman Layna Gerhard. The loss dropped Kay's record to 9-3 this season.
