Brynne Dordel to Join Ohio State Coaching Staff

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State Softball continues to grow its coaching staff ahead of the 2027 season, with assistant coach Brynne Dordel announced today. as the program's latest hire.
"Hiring Brynne is a huge win for our program," said head coach Kirin Kumar. "Brynne has proven she has the ability to develop pitchers and make them better. She has the experience, knowledge, and track record we were looking for, and I believe she can take our bullpen to another level. Brynne understands exactly what that requires."
Dordel comes to Columbus after three years as a pitching coach for University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Dordel's staff posted a cumulative 2.24 ERA and 325 strikeouts to lead the Southern Conference in 2026, with junior RHP Brooklyn Shroyer tabbed SoCon pitcher of the year. The Spartans were conference champions in 2026, with Dordel's squad tossing shutouts in the latter two games of the tournament.
Prior to her time at UNCG, Dordel spent a year at Utah State and two years at Rutgers, where she helped coach Rutgers to a post season appearance in 2022. Dordel also spent three years with the Alabama as a volunteer assistant coach. During her tenure, the Crimson Tide would make a College World Series appearance and take the SEC Regular Season Championship in 2019. The 2019 coaching staff was named NFCA Division I South Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
Alabama also reached the Super Regionals in 2018.
Prior to spending the 2017 season at Iowa State, Dordel enjoyed a successful three seasons as pitching coach at North Dakota State. The Bison would claim three Summit League Regular Season and Tournament titles, as well as four NCAA tournament wins. Dordel and the staff were named NFCA Division I Midwest Coaching Staff of the year in 2015 and 2016, while also being tabbed Summit League Coaching Staff of the Year in 2014 and 2015.
Dordel began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Ball State, working with the pitching staff. Dordel established herself as a pillar of a Ball State squad that would claim back-to-back Mid-American Conference championships in 2012 and 2013.
Dordel graduated from Drake University in 2011, having spent four years as the program's starting pitcher and earning a degree in accounting and finance. She received CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team honors in her senior season.
"She's going to be an important piece of our staff," Kumar said about Dordel. "I'm excited about the impact she'll have on our pitchers and on our program."
