Buckeyes earn the series win with a 14-11 triumph
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Reagan Milliken became just the third Buckeye to ever hit three home runs in a game as Ohio State (33-10-1, 8-5) clinch a series win over Penn State with a 14-11 victory on Sunday afternoon at Beard Field in State College, Pa.
Milliken went 4-for-5 with home runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings. She drove in five runs and paced an offensive attack that finish the day with 15 hits, including six for extra bases. Milliken joins Amy Haug and Jamee Juarez as the only other Buckeye to hit three home runs in a game. Juarez did it most recently against Oregon on Feb. 25, 2006.
In addition to Milliken's big day, Morgan Frye went 3-for-3 with a three-run double in the fifth inning. Jasmyn Burns also collected three hits and scored three times while Skylar Limon drove in three runs.
How The Runs Were Scored
- Penn State used a single and two walks in the bottom of the first inning to load the bases and then cashed in on the scoring opportunity when Michela Barbanente hit a grand slam to left field.
- Facing a 4-0 deficit, the Buckeyes began to chip away in the top of the second inning, as Jasmyn Burns and Morgan Frye singled to set up Skylar Limon, who hit a two-out triple in the left center field gap that made the score 4-2 in Penn State's favor. The RBI were Limon's 20th and 21st on the season.
- Parisien led off the third inning with her 15th home run of the season and second in as many games. The solo shot – which cleared the right center field wall – made the score 4-3 in Penn State's favor.
- Milliken's 14th home run of the season led off the top of the fourth inning and tied the game at 4-all. The Buckeyes would put the next three batters on, via two singles and a walk, and eventually push across two runs to take a 6-4 lead.
- Penn State re-took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Madison Seidel lead off home run and error that allowed to Nittany Lions to cross the plate.
- The back-and-forth nature of Sunday's series finale continued into the fifth inning, as Ohio State loaded the bases with no outs and then watched as Morgan Frye delivered a bases-clearing three-run double to make the score 9-7 in Ohio State's favor. The next batter – Limon – brought Frye home with a single to right field.
- Milliken hit her second home run of the day – a two-run bomb to left field – with one out in the top of the sixth inning. Penn State, however, would push a run across in the home half of the sixth on a Buckeye fielding error to cut the deficit to 12-9.
- Milliken put the finishing touches on her historic day with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning that made the score 14-9 in Ohio State's favor. Penn State scored twice in the bottom half of the inning but would get no closer.
