COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 15 Ohio State men's lacrosse team took down two-time defending national champion Notre Dame Saturday with a 10-9 win at Arlotta Stadium in South Bend, Ind. The win is the seventh straight for the Buckeyes (7-1) who are now 1-0 on the road this season and the No. 2 Fighting Irish drop to 3-2 on the year.
The Short Story
In a game that was tied six times, had seven lead changes and came down to the final possession, the Buckeyes prevailed on a goal from Shane O'Leary with seven seconds left to play. Ohio State had seven different players score on the day, led by senior attackman Alex Marinier with three goals. O'Leary had two in the game while Ryan Donnery, Garrett Haas, Gannon Matthews, Jack McKenna Liam White each added a goal. Marinier finished with a team-high four points.
Sophomore goaltender Caleb Fyock made a season-high 13 saves against the second-best scoring offense in the country. He and the Buckeye defense held the team to its lowest scoring performance of the season. Fyock is the first goaltender to hold the Fighting Irish to under 10 goals since the 2023 season.
Ohio State's defensive effort caused 10 of Notre Dame's 16 turnovers. Cullen Brown led the team with three caused turnovers on the day.
Jack Oldman won the faceoff battle with 13 wins against the Fighting Irish, who had not finished below .500 from the faceoff X all season. He finished the day with 11 ground balls.
The win is the Buckeyes' fourth in the last six meetings against Notre Dame. The last Ohio State win in the series was in 2022 (14-11) and the last win for the Buckeyes in South Bend was 2019 (11-10 OT). With the win, Ohio State improves to 2-0 against higher ranked teams this season.

How it Happened
- Ohio State was first to score for the sixth time this season. Marinier put the Buckeyes on the board at 12:03 in the first quarter. The Buckeyes are now 6-0 when scoring the first goal of the game.
- Notre Dame went on to score three consecutive goals in the next eight minutes to take a 3-1 advantage in the first frame, but Ohio State followed with its own three-goal run. Gannon Matthews tallied the final goal of the opening quarter at 3:36 to cut the Fighting Irish lead to one. Garrett Haas (7:58) and Jack McKenna (5:50) put the Buckeyes up 4-3 on Notre Dame with under six minutes to play in the first half.
- Notre Dame scored twice to neutralize the Buckeye lead and put itself back in front by one goal at the half.
- Ohio State outscored Notre Dame, 4-1, in the third quarter off goals from Shane O'Leary, Ryan Donnery and Marinier to take the 8-6 lead entering the final stanza.
- The Fighting Irish responded with the first three goals of the fourth quarter to take a 9-8 lead with under eight minutes to play.
- Ohio State freshman Liam White recorded the game-tying goal at 4:31. Over the next three and a half minutes, Caleb Fyock made two saves to keep the Fighting Irish from taking back the lead.
- Notre Dame took its final timeout of the game with a minute to play but turned the ball over resulting in Ohio State possession with 47 seconds on the clock. After a successful clear, the Buckeyes took their final timeout with 32 seconds remaining to set up its final shot of the game.
- O'Leary started with the ball out of the timeout and after holding the ball for nearly 20 seconds dished it off to Haas behind the net. Haas took it above the goal line and turned back to find O'Leary open on the right side of the goal. O'Leary found the back of the net with seven seconds on the clock to give Ohio State the 10-9 win.
