Buckeyes In a Nutshell
- Ohio State earned its seventh straight win with a 10-9 victory over then-ranked No. 2 Notre Dame last Saturday. The Buckeyes went on the road for the first time this season and defeated the two-time reigning national champion. Shane O'Leary tallied the game-winning goal with seven seconds remaining and seven players scored in the game for the Buckeyes. Caleb Fyock made 13 saves in the win while Jack Oldman went 13-for-22 at the faceoff. The Ohio State defense held Notre Dame to its lowest scoring game since 2023.
- The Buckeyes have been ranked in the national polls for the last three weeks. This week is the first of the season the team has broken into the top 10. Ohio State was voted ninth in the USILA coaches' poll and10th in the Inside Lacrosse media poll.
- The Buckeyes are led on attack by senior Alex Marinier with 24 goals and one assist for 25 points and sophomore Garrett Haas with 13 goals and 10 assists for 23 points on the year. Ryan Donnery and O'Leary also have scored double digit goals this season with 12 and 10, respectively. Fifteen players have recorded a goal for Ohio State so far this season.
- Haas and graduate midfielder Griffin Turner are tied for the team lead with 10 assists in eight games.
- Oldman has picked up a team-high 56 ground balls this season. He is 78-for-138 for the Buckeyes at the faceoff X, good for a .565 win percentage. The sophomore from Pickering, Ontario is fifth in the Big Ten in win percentage and leads the league, and is seventh nationally, with 7.00 ground balls per game.
- In goal for the Buckeyes, Fyock is 7-0 on the year and boasts a .641 save percentage. The sophomore's save percentage ranks fourth in the country and second in the Big Ten.
- Ohio State has held six of its eight opponents on the year to 10 or less goals and five of those six to five or less. The team's scoring defense of 7.63 is fourth in the country. Fyock's 5.52 goals against average is the best in the league and ranks second nationally.
- The Buckeye defensive effort leads the conference with 11.63 caused turnovers per game. The mark is good for third in the country. Close defenseman Cullen Brown paces the Big Ten, and is third nationally, with 2.50 caused turnovers per game. Greg Langermeier (1.38) and Bobby Van Buren (1.25) join Brown in the top 10 in the league in the category.
- Ohio State is the only team in the country that has all four 2024 final four teams on its schedule. The Buckeyes are 2-0 in those matchups this season with wins over the Fighting Irish and Virginia and have Denver and Maryland on deck. Â
- The series between the Buckeyes and Pioneers, which began in 1993, is even at 15-15. Sunday is the 31st meeting in the series and the fourth in as many seasons.
- The teams were conference foes in the Great Western Lacrosse League conference from 1998-2009 and the ECAC Lacrosse League from 2010-13. Despite moving to different conferences in 2014, the teams have continued to play each other regularly in the non-conference schedule.
- Ohio State's last win in the series was a 16-7 victory in Columbus March 19, 2017. The Buckeyes are looking for their first win at Denver since 2009.
- Ohio State has two more home games of the regular season schedule remaining. The Buckeyes will play Big Ten Conference home games vs. Rutgers (March 29) and Maryland (April 12).
