COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 24 Ohio State women's golf team had a stellar day on the course at the Reserve at Lake Keowee to open the Clemson Invitational on Friday, with four Buckeyes shooting in the 60s and the team setting an 18-hole program scoring record.
The Buckeyes are in first place after round one, firing a team score of 275 (-13). It is the lowest 18-hole team score in program history.
Ohio State led the field of 15 teams in par 3 scoring (2.90) and par 5 scoring (4.55). The Buckeyes are tied for the most birdies with 21.
Kary Hollenbaugh led Ohio State with a four-under 68. It is her eighth round in the 60s this season. She is tied for third place and she had six birdies on the day. She led the field of 83 players on par 3 scoring; she was three-under on par 3s.
Marina Joyce-Moreno fired a career-low 69 (-3) in round one and is tied for sixth place. She had four birdies. Joyce-Moreno shot three-under on par 5s, which was tied for best among the field of players.
Faith Choi also carded a three-under 69 and is tied for sixth. It is her third round in the 60s this season and she had five birdies.
Nellie Ong shot a career-best 69 (-3) as well and is tied for sixth with her teammates. She birdied four holes. Ong shot three-under on par 5s, which was tied for best among the field of players.
Mandy Song is tied for 55th place. She shot 75 (+3) and had two birdies.
Kavya Ajjarapu is competing as an individual and is tied for 44th place. She carded a 72 (+2) on Friday.
The Clemson Invitational continues Saturday, March 29-Sunday, March 30.
