Buckeyes In a Nutshell
- Ohio State opened its conference schedule last Sunday, defeating then-ranked No. 4 Penn State, 13-9, on the road. The Buckeyes were led by a 17-save game by goaltender Caleb Fyock, a .640 day for faceoff specialist Jack Oldman, eight different goal scorers and a defensive performance that held the Nittany Lions to their lowest scoring game of the year and caused 10 of the opponent's 15 turnovers.
- The Buckeyes jumped to No. 3 in the national polls following Sunday's win. The ranking is tied for the highest in program history. The last time Ohio State was ranked third in the country was during the 2017 season. The Buckeyes have been ranked for the last five weeks and have been voted top 10 for the last three weeks.
- Inside Lacrosse named its Midseason Media All-Americans this week with six Buckeyes making the list. Bobby Van Buren is a First Team honoree while Cullen Brown, Caleb Fyock and Greg Langermeier are third team members. Blake Eiland and Alex Marinier were honorable mention.
- Also announced this week were the latest additions to the 2025 Tewaaraton Award Watchlist. Fyock and Marinier were among the additions and join Van Buren to make three Buckeyes on the watchlist for the most prestigious award in the sport.
- Ohio State leads the Big Ten Conference in caused turnovers per game (11.20), ground balls per game (34.60) and scoring margin (5.20). All three categories are ranked top 15 nationally. Brown paces the conference, and ranks fifth in the country, with 2.50 caused turnovers per game. Oldman's 7.90 ground balls per game also lead the conference and are a top 10 mark nationally.
- Marinier is one of six players in the country with over 30 goals this season. He is top 20 nationally and leads the conference with 3.10 goals per game. His 31 goals in 10 games surpass his career-high of 28 scored in 14 games last season.
- The Buckeye offensive effort has seen contributions across the lineup with 15 goal scorers on the year. Fourteen of those goal scorers have multiple tallies this season and five – Marinier, Garrett Haas (16), Ryan Donnery (15), Shane O'Leary (13) and Ed Shean (12) – have over 10 goals.
- Haas has recorded a point in every game he's played this season and has multiple points in all but one game played in 2025. Donnery and Marinier have at least a point in nine of the Buckeyes' 10 games. Marinier has a goal in nine of 10 games, with a hat trick in seven games. Donnery has scored in all but two games this season.
- Fyock, who was named to the USILA Team of the Week following his performance against Penn State, leads the Big Ten with a 6.35 goals-against average and his .628 save percentage is second in the league. He is in the top five nationally in both categories.
- At the faceoff X, Oldman is 109-for-191 in 10 games played. His win percentage (.571) is fifth in the league. He has won over 50 percent of faceoffs in seven of the Buckeyes' 10 games, most recently going 16-for-25 against the Nittany Lions.
- The Buckeyes' defense has been one of the most formidable for opposing attacks this season. Ohio State has held five of its opponents this season to five or less goals and seven teams to their lowest scoring performances of the year. The team's scoring defense (8.10) is second in the league and top 10 in the country.
- Saturday is the 13th meeting between Ohio State and Rutgers.
- The first game of the series was played in 1999 – an 11-9 win for the Buckeyes.
- The teams did not meet again until they became conference opponents in the Big Ten in 2015.
- Ohio State has five wins in the all-time series, including four as conferences foes.
- The last time the teams met in Columbus was 2023 and the Buckeyes earned an 11-7 victory over the Scarlet Knights at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium.
- Ohio State is 3-2 against Rutgers in Columbus.
- Ohio State has two more home games of the regular season schedule remaining. In addition to the team's game this weekend, it also hosts No. 2 Maryland (April 12).
