No. 4 Seed Buckeyes Drop B1G Quarterfinal to Five Seed Wolverines

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The ninth ranked Ohio State men's lacrosse team fell in the 2026 Big Ten Men's Lacrosse Tournament quarterfinals, 11-8, to No. 5-seed Michigan Saturday at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium.
Short Story
Ohio State (10-4, 3-2 B1G) and Michigan went back-and-forth in the first 20 minutes of the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal but it was the Wolverines (6-8, 2-3 B1G) who pulled ahead for the win.
Senior Cullen Brown recorded a career-high six caused turnovers against the Wolverines. He tied his career high with eight ground balls on the day to help the team win the ground ball battle, 38-27. Junior Garrett Haas also tied his career high with five ground balls.
Ohio State won 15 of 22 faceoffs on Saturday. Junior Jack Oldman went 10-for-16 and freshman Matt Mayfield was 5-for-6.
Graduate students Jackson Birtwistle and Alex Mariner led the team with two goals on the day.

How it Happened
- Both defenses held the game without a goal for the first eight minutes of the game. Caleb Fyock started the game with three saves for Ohio State.
- Michigan tallied the first goal of the day at 6:48. Ohio State neutralized the lead on the following faceoff as Jack Oldman picked up his second faceoff win of four in the quarter and connected with Jake Cohen, who hit the top right corner of the Michigan goal at 6:35.
- The Wolverines took the 2-1 lead after the first quarter with their second at 4:43.
- Ohio State was first on the board in the second quarter with Alex Marinier tying the game at 12:42. But Michigan responded with a goal off the ensuing faceoff, regaining the lead at 12:31.
- Michigan extended its lead at 4:22 before a faceoff win by Jack Oldman put the Buckeyes in position to cut the Wolverine advantage back down to one. Garrett Haas scored in the final seconds of the shot clock at 3:01.
- At halftime, the Wolverines had a two-goal lead. Both teams won three faceoffs in the second quarter and Ohio State won the ground ball battle, 12-4.
- Ohio State struck first in the second half with Jackson Birtwistle scoring out of an extra-man opportunity to bring the Buckeyes back within one. The Buckeyes scored three goals in the third quarter with Birtwistle tallying two in the frame and Logan Soelberg scoring his fourth goal against the Wolverines in the last two weeks. Michigan outscored the Buckeyes, 4-3, in the quarter to take the 9-6 lead into the final frame.
- Both the Buckeyes and Wolverines scored twice in the fourth quarter, with Ohio State's Marinier and Kyle Foster recording the first two goals of the quarter and Michigan scoring the last two goals of the game.
