IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Ohio State baseball team (6-13, 0-4 Big Ten) was blanked by Iowa (12-8, 5-2 Big Ten), 12-0, in a seven-inning run-rule game on Friday.

- The Hawkeyes took a 2-0 lead over the Buckeyes after a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.
- Back-to-back home runs for Iowa in the bottom of the second sent four runs across and extended the Hawkeyes' lead over Ohio State, 6-0.
- In the top of the third, Nick Giamarusti led off with a single to right field and then Reggie Bussey was walked to put two runners on. Giamarusti advanced to third on a wild pitch to put Buckeyes on the corners, but they were stranded.
- In the bottom of the fourth, the Hawkeyes hit a three-run home run to take a 9-0 lead over the Buckeyes.
- With one out in the top of the fifth, Giamarusti singled up the middle and advanced to second on a wild pitch, but he was left on base.
- An RBI double, an RBI single and a score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth extended the Hawkeye lead, 12-0.
- Trey Lipsey drew a walk to lead off the sixth inning for the Buckeyes. Lee Ellis reached base on a fielder's choice, followed by an infield single from Tyler Pettorini to put runners on first and second. A fly-out from Matthew Graveline advanced both the runners into scoring position, but the Buckeyes were not able to capitalize.
- The Buckeyes were retired in order in the top of the seventh and the Hawkeyes took the series-opener, 12-0.
- Giamarusti led the Buckeyes with two hits.
- Ryan Butler (0-1) took the loss. He struck out three and gave up nine runs on eight hits in 3.0 innings pitched.
- Charlie Giese pitched 1.1 clean innings of relief for the Buckeyes and struck out one.
- The Buckeyes and Hawkeyes continue their series with a game on Saturday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m. CT/3:00 p.m. ET and a game on Sunday, March 23 at 1:00 p.m. CT/2:00 p.m. ET.
