Bertrand Makes Buckeye History to Wrap Up Indoor Big Tens

Leah Bertrand set a new program record in the women’s 60m and is now the second fastest individual in the 200m in program history.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track & field program wrapped up the 2025 Big Ten Indoor Championships on Saturday.

Leah Bertrand broke her own 60m program record with a time of 7.19 seconds to finish third. She previously set the program record (7.20) last season. Bertrand also recorded a 200m time of 23.03 which makes her the second fastest individual in the women's 200m in program history, right behind Anavia Battle who set a program record of 22.39 in 2022.

Callia Harris competed in the women's pentathlon (60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800m), setting three personal records and two additional season best performances.

Morgan Fijalkowski set a personal record in the women's pole vault (4.16m/13-07.75) to lead the Buckeye field athletes on Friday. The Buckeye field squad had five make the finals on Saturday, with Amaya Ugarte (women's high jump) and Ibrahim Khairat (men's triple jump) each finishing fifth.

The Buckeyes are scheduled to have a breather next weekend in preparation for the NCAA Championships in Virginia Beach, Va. on Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15. More information will be announced the week of the meet.

- Men's 400m finals: Noah Carmichael's time of 46.67 seconds was the sixth best.
- Women's 60m finals: Leah Bertrand, 3rd (7.19). She set a new program record for individuals in the women's 60m. She owned the previous record of 7.20 seconds, which she set last year.
- Women's 60m hurdles finals: Janela Spencer finished fourth overall (8.14), just 0.01 seconds off her personal best. Olivia Powell's time of 8.26 seconds was good for seventh place.
- Men's 200m finals: Nick Biega finished seventh with a time of 21.26 seconds – the second fastest time among all Buckeye men this season. The only faster 200m time by a Buckeye this season was Biega's time in the first round of the Big Ten Championships.
- Women's 200m finals: Bertrand ran a personal best time of 23.03 seconds to finish seventh. Her time places her second in program history among the all-time women's 200m leaders.
- Women's 3000m: Akemi Von Scherr led the Buckeye women with a time of 9:50.41, which is the seventh fastest time among the squad this season. Zoee Lehman also competed in the event, finishing in 10:05.83.
- Women's 4x400: Fatouma Conde, Michaela McCall, Powell and Harris collectively finished with a time of 3:42.08.
- Men's high jump: Devin Jordan tied for eighth after clearing the best season height for Buckeye men (2.10m/06-10.75).
- Women's high jump: Amaya Ugarte finished in fifth place with a season best clearance of 1.80m/05-10.75.
- Men's triple jump: Ibrahim Khairat finished fifth overall with a distance of 15.56m/51-00.75. Brian Kellon had a performance of 14.97m/01.50.
- Men's shot put: Hayden Tobias had the eighth best throw of 18.54m/60-10.00. Michael Lunsford also competed, putting up 15.82m/51-11.00.
- Women's shot put: Lacey Stringer's 16.51m/54-02.00 was good for the 11th best distance. Morgan Hallett finished with a toss of 12.97m/42-06.75.
- Women's triple jump: Sydnee Burr finished with the ninth best distance of 12.92m/42-04.75. Zamesha Myle followed suit with her best throw going for 12.35m/40-06.25.
- Overview: Braden Wakey finished 13th overall with 4408 points between the two days of competition. Today, he tallied 1712 points from the men's 60m hurdles (746), pole vault (522) and 1000m (444). Yesterday he earned 2696 points from the men's 60m (745), long jump (668), shot put (639) and high jump (644).
- 60m hurdles: Wakey earned 746 points after finishing in nine seconds flat, a new personal record.
- Pole vault: Braden Wakey cleared 3.65m/11-11.75 to gain 522 points.
- 1000m: Braden Wakey finished 13th (3:24.48), earning 444 points.
- 60m: Wakey earned 745 points after finishing in 7.40 seconds.
- Long Jump: He finished 13th with a season best distance of 6.37m/20-10.75, earning 668 points.
- Shot put: Wakey's best performance of the day came in shot put where he placed fifth with a distance of 12.54m/41-01.75, collecting 639 points.
- High Jump: He ended the day by earning 644 points after placing 11th with a height clearance of 1.82m/05-11.50.
- Men's 400m first round: Carmichael qualified for the finals with a season best  time of 46.49 seconds.
- Women's 400m first round: McCall finished with a time of 55.46 seconds.
- Men's 60m first round: Nazzio John placed 15th, finishing in 6.77 seconds.
- Women's 60m first round: Bertrand had the sixth best time of 7.29 seconds, qualifying for the finals. Olive (7.43) and Fatouma Conde (7.49) also competed.
- Women's 800m first round: Carina Napoleon landed in 15th (2:08.80) with Amelia Figler finishing right behind her with a time of 2:10.62.
- Women's 60m hurdles first round: Powell came in sixth place just 0.01 seconds away from her season best time of 8.21, qualifying for the finals. Spencer also qualified with the eighth best time of 8.29 seconds. Katie Ruffener rounded out the Buckeyes' showing with a time of 8.56 seconds.
- Men's 600m first round: Mason Louis and Jaxson Eckert finished neck-and-neck with times of 1:18.99 and 1:19.86, respectively. Edidiong Udo just trailed them with a time of 1:22.62.
- Women's 600m first round: Lilly Eckels reached a personal record of 1:32.48, placing 13th.
- Men's 200m first round: Biega earned a spot in the finals after having the seventh best time of 21.02 seconds. His time not only was his season best, but also is the fastest 200m time among the Buckeye men this season. John also had a top 15 time of 21.28 seconds (12th).
- Women's 200m first round: Similar to Biega, Bertrand also placed seventh with the fastest 200m time (23.29 seconds) for Buckeye women this season, qualifying for the finals. Conde finished 13th overall in 23.60 seconds with Olive behind her closely with a time of 24.03 seconds.
- Men's 5000m: Liam Shaughnessy and Colby Adams each competed, posting times of 14:22.79 and 14:37.80, respectively.
- Women's 5000m: Daniella Santos finished exactly at the midway point of total runners with a time of 16:42.24.
- Men's pole vault: Daniel Edwards had the 12th best height clearance of 5.15m/16-10.75, which was just shy of his season best (5.16m/16-11/00).
- Men's long jump: Brian Kellon landed in the top 15 with a distance of 7.05m/23-01.75.
- Women's pole vault: Fijalkowski set a personal record of 4.16m/13-07.75, finishing in 11th place. Sophie Fong tied for 14th with a height of 4.01m/13-01.75 and Nicole Grimes recorded a season best of 3.86m/12-08.00.
- Women's long jump: Sydnee Burr placed 13th with a distance of 6.04m/19-09.75.
- Women's weight throw: Lacey Stringer, 23rd (17.78m/57-08.25), and Morgan Hallett, 28th (16.72m/54.10.25), competed for the Buckeyes.
- Overview: Harris finished 16th overall with a total score of 3616 points. She notched three personal records and two season bests between the women's 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800m.
- 60m hurdles: She earned 837 points off of a season best time of  9.18 seconds.
- High jump: Her best performance out of the five events occurred in the high jump where she placed fourth with a personal record of 1.73m/05-08.00, earning 891 points.
- Shot put: She recorded a season best distance of 9.50m/31-02.00 for 497 points.
- Long jump: Harris set another personal record, this time placing 13th with a distance of 5.57m/18-03.25 for 720 points.
- 800m: She closed out the pentathlon with a third personal record set with a time of 2:34.75, earning 635 points.
