Ohio State Comes Back to Defeat St. Thomas in Overtime

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team overcame a two-goal third period deficit to defeat St. Thomas, 5-4, in overtime Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink.
The Buckeyes (22-6-3, 16-6-3 WCHA) and Tommies (8-19-2, 5-17-1 WCHA) close the season series tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. Tickets for the game can be purchased HERE. The game will be streamed on B1G+ (subscription required).
Short Story
Ohio State was playing from behind for most of the game after St. Thomas took a 1-0 lead at 18:13 in the first period. The Buckeyes were down by two goals three times in the game and faced a 4-2 deficit with under five minutes to play in the third period.
Graduate defender Riley Brengman scored the Buckeyes' first of three goals in the third period, skating the puck from behind her own net deep into the Tommies' zone and lighting the lamp just 1:18 into the final frame of regulation.
St. Thomas restored its two-goal lead at 10:12 in the third, but graduate forward Jenna Buglioni scored shorthanded at 14:19 to cut the St. Thomas advantage to one goal. Ohio State pulled its goaltender with 2:36 on the clock for the extra skater and with 29 seconds left in regulation, sophomore forward Jocelyn Amos, who scored the team's first goal of the day, tallied the game-tying goal to send the game to overtime.
Joy Dunne scored Ohio State's game-winning goal 1:09 into overtime to complete the comeback for the Buckeyes.
Amanda Thiele earned the start in goal for the Buckeyes but was replaced at the start of the third period by Genny Klein. Klein made two saves in the third period as Ohio State held St. Thomas to just three shots on goal in the frame. Thiele finished the game with 11 saves in 41:38 minutes played.

Game Notes
- Jenna Buglioni's shorthanded goal in the third period is her sixth of her career. She has now tied the program record that is held by Jana Harrigan ('03-06). The Port Moody, B.C. native has now recorded three shorthanded goals for the second straight season, tying herself for second in the program record book for season shorthanded goals.
- Amos' multi-goal performance was just her second of the season. She is the first Buckeye to 20 goals this season.
- Genny Klein tallied her first career point in Friday's game, earning the lone assist on Brengman's goal.
