No. 17 Buckeyes Return to Action at Notre Dame

Teams will face off Friday in South Bend
 COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The No. 17-ranked Ohio State women's tennis team is on the road this week to face Notre Dame Friday. The match will take place at 4 p.m. in South Bend, Ind. Ohio State enters the match 3-1 on the year and the Irish are 7-0.

- The Buckeyes are No. 17 in the most recent ITA Coaches Poll, released Jan. 29.
- Four Buckeyes are featured in the singles rankings this week, with Luciana Perry at No. 9, Teah Chavez No. 55, Audrey Spencer No. 60 and Nao Nishino No. 107. This marks the first time Chavez and Nishino have been ranked in singles.
- In doubles, the duo of Dani Schoenly and Alessia Cau is No. 63, the first time in the ITA rankings for both Buckeyes.
- The last time the teams played in 2024, the Buckeyes posted a 4-0 shutout victory at home over the Fighting Irish.
- The Buckeyes have won the last four matchups against Notre Dame and under head coach Melissa Schaub, Ohio State has a 4-1 record against the Irish.
- The first match between the teams was in 1985.
- Notre Dame's Akari Matsuno is ranked 71st in singles this week.
- The Irish are 7-0 this season and posted wins over Maryland (4-3) and Columbia (4-2) last weekend in New York City.
- In dual matches, Shelly Bereznyak, Teah Chavez and Nao Nishino are all 3-0, with Luciana Perry 3-1.
- Chavez is on a team-best five-match winning streak and Shelly Bereznyak and Nao Nishino have each won their last three matches.
- Overall, Perry has a team-high 17 singles wins, followed by Chavez with 16 and Nishino with 15.
- The tandem of Nishino and Audrey Spencer is a team-best 3-0 in dual matches and Chavez and Perry are 2-1.
- The Buckeyes won the doubles point in three of the first four matches.
- Ohio State last competed Jan. 24 and 25 in Knoxville, Tenn., as part of ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Buckeyes started with a 4-1 win against NC State and ultimately fell to Tennessee 4-3.
- The Buckeyes are headed to Durham, N.C. for a road match against No. 9 Duke Feb. 14. The match was rescheduled from Feb. 1.
- Ohio State will then return home to host No. 3 Oklahoma State at noon Feb. 23 before kicking off Big Ten play in Columbus Feb. 28 with a 1 p.m. match vs. Purdue.
- Admission and parking are free for all Ohio State home matches.
