Ohio State captured five straight-set singles wins
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 17-ranked Ohio State women's tennis team defeated host Notre Dame, 6-1, Friday in South Bend, Ind. The Buckeyes improve to 4-1 on the year and the Irish dropped their first match of the season, falling to 7-1.

Ohio State opened the match with the doubles point and then claimed five singles matches in straight sets for the win. Luciana Perry, Teah Chavez and Sydni Ratliff all won in singles and doubles. Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev paired with Ratliff for a doubles win and Shelly Bereznyak and Nao Nishino both picked up singles victories.

How it Happened
- Ohio State captured wins on courts one and three for the doubles point.
- On court one, the duo of Luciana Perry and Teah Chavez rolled to a 6-2 win. On court three, the duo of Sydni Ratliff and Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev won four of the final five games for a 6-3 victory. The court three match was suspended with the teams on serve (5-4 ND). The Buckeye duo was down 4-1 but had battled back to even the match.
- The Buckeyes took five of the first six singles sets en route to five straight-set wins.
- Freshman Nao Nishino dropped just three games on court five, downing Rylie Hanford, 6-1, 6-2, for a 2-0 Buckeye lead.
- On court one, Perry was a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Bojana Pozder. Shelly Bereznyak followed soon after to clinch the team victory, as she downed Carrie Beckman, 6-3, 6-1, on court three.
- On court five, Teah Chavez won the last three games to capture the first set against Akari Matsuno, 7-5. Chavez dropped just one game in set two to take the match.
- Sydni Ratliff broke to take the first set against Nibi Ghost, 6-4 and then won the second set 6-3 for a court four win and 6-0 Ohio State lead.
- On court six, Buckeye Audrey Spencer dropped the first set against Bianca Molnar, 6-4, but she rallied in the second with a 7-5 win to force a match tiebreaker. In the breaker, Spencer jumped out to a 5-0 lead but the breaker was back-and-forth after that. Molnar got even at 6-all and won four of the final five points to take the breaker, 10-7, and the match.
- Bereznyak, Chavez and Nishino are all 4-0 in dual matches this season.
- The Buckeyes are headed to Durham, N.C. for a road match against No. 9 Duke Feb. 14. The match was rescheduled from Feb. 1.
- Ohio State will then return home to host No. 3 Oklahoma State at noon Feb. 23 before kicking off Big Ten play in Columbus Feb. 28 with a 1 p.m. match vs. Purdue.
- Admission and parking are free for all Ohio State home matches.
