Schaub, Cohen and Chavez Recognized
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Three members of the Ohio State women's tennis program have been recognized with regional awards by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the ITA announced Tuesday. Melissa Schaub was selected the ITA/Dunlop Midwest Region Coach of the Year, Adam Cohen was tabbed the ITA Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year and Teah Chavez was honored as the ITA Midwest Region Player to Watch. The trio is now on the ballot for the national awards.Â
Schaub is now a four-time honoree (2016, '17, '21) and Cohen has also been recognized four times (2016, '21, '24). Chavez is the fourth Buckeye to be named the regional player to watch, joining Kristy Dascoli (1998), Monica Rincon (2000) and Gabriella De Santis (2015). Â
The duo of Schaub and Cohen led the Buckeyes to the program's second NCAA semifinal appearance, and the first since 2017. The Buckeyes claimed the Big Ten regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament after going 12-1 in B1G play. The No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the Buckeyes ended the season ranked fourth. Schaub and Cohen have guided the Buckeyes to 12 consecutive and 22 overall NCAA championships. The Buckeyes were 27-5 in 2026, the third-most wins in a single season in program history.Â
The ITA Player to Watch honor is given to a returning player that is expected to have an outstanding collegiate year next season and is expected to be one of the top returning regional players. The Big Ten Player of the Year and now a two-time First Team All-Big Ten honoree, Chavez garnered her second All-America accolade this year after finishing the campaign ranked fifth nationally and second in the region. After starting the year ranked 11th, she moved into the top 5 Feb. 4 and was as high as second, the second Buckeye to be ranked in the top two all-time. Chavez is the fourth Buckeye to earn multiple singles All-America honors, joining Luciana Perry, Irina Cantos Siemers and Francesca Di Lorenzo. In 2025-26 Chavez was an NCAA qualifier and 23-6 overall in singles (17-3 in dual matches).Â
