Perry Added to US Open Wildcard Playoffs

Five Buckeyes playing for US Open entry
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior Luciana Perry from the Ohio State's women's tennis team along with juniors Aidan Kim and transfer Matthew Forbes from the men's team have been invited to participate in the men's and women's 2026 American Collegiate Player Wildcard Playoffs, the United State Tennis Association announced Wednesday. Top American collegiate tennis players will compete for a wild card spot in the 2026 US Open during the playoff June 16-18 in Orlando at the USTA National Campus' Collegiate Center.
Six wild card entries into the 2026 US Open (four singles, two doubles) will be awarded via the second-year playoff event. The winners of the four-player men's and women's singles playoff and four-team men's and women's doubles playoff will earn US Open main draw singles and doubles wild cards, respectively, while the men's and women's singles finalists will earn US Open Qualifying wild cards.
Player selections were determined by a committee made up of USTA staff, college tennis coaches and an ITA representative. American NCAA singles and doubles champions this season along with the finalists earned automatic entry.
The second-year playoff is part of an expanded NCAA-linked wild card pilot program that guarantees at least six US Open wild cards to American collegiate players each year, coinciding with the NCAA DI Individual Championships shifting to the fall.
Kim and Forbes will battle in the singles competition. Redshirt sophomore Brandon Carpico and sophomore Nikita Filin automatically qualified for the doubles competition by making the finals of the 2025 NCAA Doubles Championship last fall.
Ohio State's Perry also was added to the women's singles competition. She finished the season with a 23-6 overall record in helping the Buckeyes to a Big Ten regular-season title and a Final Four appearance at the 2026 NCAA Team Championships in Athens, Georgia. Perry finished the year ranked No. 4 nationally. She earned All-America honors in both singles and doubles.
The Ohio State women's team finished the year ranked No. 4 overall after compiling a 27-5 record.
Kim was named an All-American in both singles and doubles this season. In singles, he finished with a No. 14 national ranking with an overall record of 17-12. Pairing with junior Bryce Nakashima, the duo finished the year with a 28-7 overall record and a national ranking of No. 43.
The pair earned All-America status in doubles with a quarterfinal appearance in the 2025 NCAA Doubles Championships last fall.
Kim is now a two-time All-American in singles (2025 and 2026).
Forbes transferred to Ohio State from Michigan State following the 2025-26 season. He finished with a 20-9 overall record and eanred All-America status in singles last fall. Both Kim and Forbes were 2026 First Team All-Big Ten selections.
Filin and Carpico were ranked as high as No. 1 in the ITA weekly rankings this season. The pair finished with an overall record of 37-6 with a 22-3 record in duals. Playing primarily at the No. 1 doubles spot, they put together a 15-2 record at the top of Ohio State's doubles lineup. Overall, the pair was 17-3 against nationally-ranked opponents in 2025-26.
Ohio State finished 32-5 this season. The team earned its 20th-consecutive Big Ten regular-season title and advanced to the program's 18th appearance in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals.
