COLUMBUS, Ohio – In the first of a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series between the top two ranked teams in the country at the OSU Ice Rink this weekend, the No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team fell to No. 1 Wisconsin, 2-1, in the series-opener Friday.
The Buckeyes (15-2-0, 11-2-0 WCHA) look to earn the series split against the Badgers (17-1-1, 11-1-1 WCHA) in game two tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. The game will be streamed on B1G+ (subscription required).
The Short Story
It was a defensive battle between the top two teams in the country Friday in Columbus as it took nearly 37 minutes for the first goal to be scored between teams that averaged over five goals a game entering the series.
Wisconsin scored once on the power play in the second period and again with under five minutes to play in the third before the Buckeyes were able to respond with an extra attacker goal at 19:24 in regulation.

How it Happened
- For the third straight game, Ohio State held its opponent scoreless in the first period as Buckeye netminder Hailey MacLeod stopped 10 shots by Wisconsin to start the night. The Buckeyes put nine on target in in the opening frame.
- Ohio State killed off the lone power play opportunity for either team in the first period, allowing just one shot by the Badgers.
- The Buckeyes started the second period on the power play after a late penalty in the first by Wisconsin for tripping, but weren't able to capitalize.
- MacLeod made four saves in the third minute of the period to continue to keep the Badgers off the board and both teams were still looking for their first goal by the media timeout at 12:14.
- Ohio State was called for a trip at 16:43 in the second and some unfortunate puck luck fell on the Buckeyes as Wisconsin's Adéla Šapovalivová had a shot redirected into the Buckeye net at 16:58.
- The second and final power play opportunity of the day for Ohio State came at 10:40 in the third. Wisconsin's penalty kill came away successful again.
- The game-winning goal was scored at 15:51 in the third by Badger Caroline Harvey.
- The Buckeyes opted to pull MacLeod for the sixth skater with 1:28 remaining in regulation and it was Amos who tallied the lone Ohio State goal at 19:34 with assists going to Sloane Matthews and Hilda Svensson.
- Ohio State took two more shots as the clock expired but was unable to find the equalizer.
- MacLeod finished the game with a season-high Buckeye career-high 32 saves against the Badgers.
- Amos' goal is her sixth of the year and 96th of her career. She is now four points shy of becoming the 18th Buckeye in program history to hit 100 career points.
- Svensson's assist is her 20th of the year. She is one of four players in the country with 20 or more helpers this season.
- Ohio State is just the second team this season to hold Wisconsin to two or less goals in a game this season.
