No. 2 Ohio State Earns 5-0 Win Over No. 12 Colgate in D1 in DC Finale

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team went undefeated in the 2025 D1 in DC Tournament, closing the weekend with a 5-0 win over No. 12 Colgate Saturday at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va.

The Buckeyes (15-1-0, 11-1-0 WCHA) earned the weekend shut out with a 17-save performance by sophomore goaltender Genny Klein in Saturday's victory over the Raiders (8-9-1, 4-3-1 WCHA). Ohio State blocked eight shots on the day to hold Colgate to under 20 shots on goal for the third time this season.
Ohio State's special teams were clicking yet again, scoring three times on the power play on six chances and killing off all four penalties. Ohio State scored four times in the second period and three power play goals in the frame in back-to-back games.

How it Happened
- The game started similar to Friday's contest with Ohio State scoreless in the first period while also holding its opponent off the board. The team had 16 shots on goal in the frame while Klein made eight saves as both teams went into the first intermission knotted at zero.
- Freshmen forwards Kassidy Carmichael and Sanni Vanhanen scored twice in the middle frame for the Buckeyes. Carmichael recorded Ohio State's first score and power play goal of the game for the second time this weekend. She lit the lamp first at 5:43 on the team's second power play opportunity of the game.
- Vanhanen scored just seconds after a Buckeye power play expired, finding the back of the net at 9:32.
- Ohio State was awarded a five-minute power play after a Colgate game misconduct and penalty for contact to the head. Carmichael took advantage of the skater advantage again for the Buckeyes, tallying her fourth goal of the tournament at 14:05.
- In the final minute of the second period, Ohio State's power play was back in action and Vanhanen buried a rebounded shot into the Colgate goal as time expired in the period to give the Buckeyes a 4-0 advantage at the second intermission.
- Klein made four saves in the second period to hold the Raiders off the board.
- Jordan Baxter tallied the final goal of the game at 2:39 in the third period, recovering the puck at the top of Ohio State's zone and sending a wrister past the blocker of Colgate netminder Brooke Davis.
- Klein added five saves in the third period for the shutout and 5-0 Buckeye win.
- Carmichael scored twice in both games of the tournament, leading Ohio State with four goals and three power play goals on the weekend. Her two power play goals against Colgate are a career best. She now has four power play goals in her rookie season.
- Vanhanen recorded her first multi-goal game of her career. She also scored on the power play in both games of the tournament.
- Klein, who made her second career start on Saturday, earned her first career shutout and second career win.
- The Buckeyes improve to 4-0-0 against nonconference opponents this season and 11-1-0 in ranked matchups.
