COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team won its first game of the 2025 D1 in DC Tournament with an 8-0 shutout of No. 10 Clarkson Friday at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va.
The Short Story
The Buckeyes (14-1-0, 11-1-0 WCHA) scored four goals in the second and third periods and freshman forward Hilda Svensson recorded a hat trick in the win over the Golden Knights (9-6-1, 5-2-1 ECAC). In addition to Svensson, Kassidy Carmichael, Joy Dunne, Macy Rasmussen and Sanni Vanhanen also scored in the game.
Hailey MacLeod stopped all of the nine shots she faced on the day for the Buckeyes' second shutout of the season.
Ohio State was perfect on the penalty kill and scored three times on the power play in the win. The team's defensive effort held its opponent to single digit shots on goal for the second time this season, including zero in the third period.

How it Happened
- Both teams were scoreless in the opening frame, with Ohio State throwing 16 shots at Clarkson netminder Holly Gruber. In goal for the Buckeyes, Hailey MacLeod made two saves.
- The scoring started in the second period with Kassidy Carmichael capitalizing on the Buckeyes' second power play opportunity of the day for her first goal of the game. She was assisted by Joy Dunne and Hilda Svensson to put her team on the board at 2:12.
- Macy Rasmussen doubled the Ohio State lead with her second career goal at 10:32 in the game. Sara Swiderski tallied the assist on the goal.
- Not a minute later, Hilda Svensson became the third Buckeye rookie to score, giving Ohio State a 3-0 lead at 11:26. Swiderski was the assist again.
- The Buckeyes had another power play chance late in the second period and Joy Dunne lit the lamp off assists from Mira Jungåker and Svensson to put Ohio State ahead, 4-0, at the second intermission.
- Hailey MacLeod stopped seven shots in the middle frame.
- Sanni Vanhanen made it back-to-back power play goals at 6:37 in the third period with Emma Peschel and Swiderski assisting.
- Carmichael and Svensson scored their second goals of the game just 15 seconds apart with Carmichael finding the back of the net at 9:42 and Svensson at 9:57. Dunne and Jocelyn Amos assisted both goals.
- The Buckeyes' final goal of the game came with 36 seconds remaining as Svensson completed the hat trick for the 8-0 win over Clarkson.
Game Notes
- Svensson recorded her first career hat trick with three goals in Friday's game. She finished the day with a career-high five points, tying Joy Dunne (1G, 4A), to lead the team in scoring against the Golden Knights.
- Buckeye rookies accounted for seven of the team's eight goals in Friday's contest. In addition to Svensson's hat trick, Carmichael recorded her first career multi-goal game, Vanhanen scored her first career power play goal and Rasmussen tallied her second goal of her career.
- Ohio State's power play finished 3-for-5 on the day for the team's first power play goals in five games. The three power play goals are the most in a game this season for the Buckeyes. The last time Ohio State scored three times on the power play was the 7-3 win at Minnesota last season (Feb. 1).
- The eight goals scored against Clarkson tie for the most scored in a game this season by the Buckeyes.
- Dunne's four assist performance was a career best.
- Hailey MacLeod improved to 9-1-0 with the win. The shutout is her second of the season.
- Ohio State is now 3-0-0 in the all-time series against Clarkson with the 8-0 win in the first regular season meeting between the programs.
