
Ohio State Wraps Up Los Angeles Trip with Four-Set Loss at UCLA

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (7-5, 0-2 B1G) wrapped up its Los Angeles trip with a four-set loss (16-25, 22-25, 25-23, 14-25) against UCLA (7-4, 1-1 B1G) on Sunday afternoon.
UCLA used an early run to create separation for a 25-16 set win. Ohio State led the majority of the second set before a late Bruins run gave them a 25-22 set win. The Buckeyes did not trail in the third set and held off a late UCLA push to earn a 25-23 set win. The Bruins wrapped up the match with a 25-14 win in the fourth set after the set was tied at 10.
Emily Londot has recorded at least 10 kills in every match this season and was the first Buckeye to reach 10 kills today, totaling 13 kills. Olivia Hasbrook was the first in the match to reach 10 digs and finished with a match-high 17 digs.
How it Happened
Ohio State opened scoring with the first two points of the match before the teams began alternating points. UCLA put together a 5-0 run to take an 8-5 lead. The Bruins extended their lead to 14-8 on the back of a 5-1 run before the Buckeyes scored the next three. OSU called timeout trailing 20-13 after a 3-0 UCLA run. The Buckeyes scored the next two points out of the timeout, but the Bruins earned a 25-16 set win.
UCLA scored the first two points of the second set, but OSU responded with the next three points to take the lead. The set was tied at points three through six before back-to-back Buckeye points. The teams alternated scoring and Ohio State held a 13-10 lead before UCLA tied the set at 15. The Buckeyes used a 5-1 run to take a 20-16 lead and force a Bruins timeout. UCLA closed a 25-22 set win with the final five points.
Rylee Rader opened the third set with a kill and the Buckeyes had a narrow lead before the set was tied at five. Ohio State scored the next three points and was able to maintain that three-point lead at 12-9 on a kill from Grace Egan. The Bruins got within one at 14-13 before back-to-back Buckeye points. Ohio State extended its lead to 20-14 amidst a UCLA timeout but the Bruins responded with the next three points to cut their deficit in half (20-17). The Buckeyes led 24-20 before UCLA fought off three set points and forced Ohio State to take a timeout leading 24-23. Londot sealed a 25-23 set win to keep the match going.
Egan began the fourth set with her eighth kill of the match as the set was tied at every point until a 3-0 UCLA run gave the Bruins a 13-10 lead. An extended 9-3 run extended the UCLA lead to 19-13 and forced an Ohio State timeout. The Bruins wrapped up a 25-14 set win and the match with the final three points.
