
Buckeyes Set for ITA All-American Championships

Perry and Ratliff in singles and doubles main draw
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Five members of the Ohio State women's tennis team are heading to Cary, N.C., for the ITA All-American Championships. The tournament runs Saturday through the following Sunday (Sept. 21-29), with prequalifying (Saturday-Sunday), qualifying (Monday-Tuesday) and main draw (Wednesday-Sunday) rounds in singles and doubles.

Teah Chavez and Audrey Spencer will both be in the 128-player singles prequalifying draw and Spencer will partner with Shelly Bereznyak in the 32-team doubles prequalifying bracket. Bereznyak will be in the 64-player singles qualifying round. Luciana Perry and Sydni Ratliff both have a spot in the 64-player main draw and will pair up in the 32-team doubles main draw.
The All-American Championships are the first event of the year where players can earn a berth into the NCAA Championships, which will be held this fall. Ten singles players (eight main draw quarterfinalists and two feed-in consolation finalists) and four doubles teams (four main draw semifinalists) will earn a spot.

Buckeye This and That
- In the first ITA rankings of the season, Luciana Perry and Sydni Ratliff were ranked fourth in doubles, the highest doubles ranking for both Buckeyes. They are the fourth Ohio State doubles team to reach the Top 5, joining Miho Kowase and Anna Sanford, Kowase and Francesca Di Lorenzo and Kristy Dascoli and Monica Rincon.
- In singles, Perry is ranked No. 23, with Ratliff No. 50 and Shelly Bereznyak No. 71.
- Perry was selected the 2024 ITA National Freshman of the Year and the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. She earned All-America honors after reaching the Round of 16 at the NCAA Championships and competed in the NCAA doubles championships. Perry and Ratliff both were named to the 2024 All-Big Ten Team, with Ratliff, the conference freshman of the year in 2022, now a two-time honoree. Ratliff competed in the NCAA singles championships in 2022 and '23 and in the doubles tournament in 2022 and qualified (but did not compete) with Perry in 2024.
- The Buckeyes opened the year at the Furman Fall Classic Sept. 12-14. Audrey Spencer led the way, winning her flight title and going 5-1 in singles and doubles combined.
- Ohio State returned eight of 11 members from the 2023-24 squad that was second in the Big Ten, hosted NCAA first and second round matches and ended the year ranked 15th.
- Irina Cantos Siemers, the Buckeyes' all-time leader in singles and combined wins, joined the Ohio State staff as an assistant coach after completing a five-year career in the spring.
- Next up for the Buckeyes is the Notre Dame Invitational Oct. 4-6 in South Bend, Ind.
- Ohio State will then host the ITA Midwest Regional Championships at the Auer Tennis Complex Oct. 10-14. Admission is free to the tournament.
- The UT Home Invitational follows Oct. 25-27 in Knoxville, Tenn.
- Two individual tournaments, the ITA Central Section Championships and ITA Conference Masters Championships will be held Nov. 7-10.
- The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships have been moved to the fall and will be contested Nov. 19-24 in Waco, Texas. Players can earn berths into the national championships through the four ITA events in the fall (starting with this week's All-American Championships).
