Buckeyes in Action at Furman

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's tennis team kicked off the fall season in the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C., over the weekend. Final draws are available HERE and above.

Sophomore Audrey Spencer led the Buckeyes in the event, going 3-0 in singles to capture the Flight 5 title (with all three wins in three sets) and pairing with Dani Schoenly for a 2-1 doubles ledger.

Schoenly also picked up two singles wins in consolation play and Teah Chavez was 2-1 in both singles and doubles, partnering with Alessia Cau.

Day One (Friday, Sept. 13)
Teah Chavez and Audrey Spencer both recorded three-set wins in singles, with Chavez rallying after dropping the opening set in a tiebreak. Alessia Cau fell in three sets and Dani Schoenly also dropped her first match. The Buckeyes lost in both doubles matches on the day.

Day Two (Saturday, Sept. 14)
The Buckeyes were a perfect 4-0 in doubles on the day, with the duos of Dani Schoenly and Audrey Spencer and Alessia Cau and Teah Chavez each notching two wins.

Spencer posted her second straight win in singles to advance in the Flight 5 main draw. Cau and Schoenly recorded consolation wins, with Schoenly rallying after dropping the first set.

Day Three (Sunday, Sept. 15)
One round of singles was held on the tournament's final day. Audrey Spencer wrapped up the Flight 5 singles title, as she rallied from a set down to win, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (0).

Teah Chavez and Dani Schoenly posted wins in consolation, as they also came from behind to prevail in three sets.

The Schedule This Fall

Up next, select Buckeyes will compete in the ITA All-American Championships Sept. 21-29 in Cary, N.C.
After the Notre Dame Invitational Oct. 4-6, Ohio State will host the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center Oct. 10-14. Admission is free to the tournament.
The UT Home Invitational follows Oct. 25-27.
Two individual tournaments, the ITA Central Section Championships and ITA Conference Masters Championships will be held Nov. 7-10.
The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships have been moved to the fall and will be contested Nov. 19-24 in Waco, Texas. Players can earn berths into the national championships through the four ITA events in the fall. More information on the pathway to the NCAAs is available HERE.
