Four Buckeyes headed to South Carolina
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The fall campaign begins for the Ohio State women's tennis team this weekend, as four Buckeyes will compete in the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic in South Carolina. Matches will be held at Furman's Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C., and there will also be matches played indoors at Clemson's Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson, S.C.

The tournament starts Friday with action at both Furman and Clemson because of expected bad weather. Play begins with one round of singles and one round of doubles, starting at 9 a.m. at Furman and 9:30 a.m. at Clemson, with the Buckeyes to play at Furman. Saturday and Sunday each will have a round of singles and a round of doubles, slated to begin at 9 a.m. each day.

Competing for the Buckeyes this weekend are sophomore Alessia Cau (flight 7), Sophomore Teah Chavez (flight 4), sophomore Audrey Spencer (flight 5) and senior Dani Schoenly (flight 8). Cau and Chavez will partner in flight 4 doubles, with Spencer and Schoenly teaming up in flight 3.

Buckeye This and That
- In the first ITA rankings of the season, Luciana Perry and Sydni Ratliff are ranked fourth in doubles, the highest doubles ranking for both Buckeyes. They are the fourth Ohio State doubles team to reach the Top 5, joining Miho Kowase and Anna Sanford, Kowase and Francesca Di Lorenzo and Kristy Dascoli and Monica Rincon.
- In singles, Perry is ranked No. 23, with Ratliff No. 50 and Shelly Bereznyak No. 71.
- Nao Nishino, from Tokyo, Japan, is the lone Buckeye newcomer this fall.
- Perry was selected the ITA National Freshman of the Year and the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in the spring. She earned All-America honors after reaching the Round of 16 at the NCAA Championships. Perry and Ratliff both were named to the 2024 All-Big Ten Team, with Ratliff, the conference freshman of the year in 2022, now a two-time honoree.
- Ohio State returns eight of 11 members from the 2023-24 squad that was second in the Big Ten, hosted NCAA first and second round matches and ended the year ranked 15th.
- Irina Cantos Siemers, the Buckeyes' all-time leader in singles and combined wins, joined the Ohio State staff as an assistant coach after completing a five-year career in the spring.
- Select Buckeyes will compete in the ITA All-American Championships Sept. 21-29 in Cary, N.C.
- After the Notre Dame Invitational Oct. 4-6, Ohio State will host the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center Oct. 10-14. Admission is free to the tournament.
- The UT Home Invitational follows Oct. 25-27.
- Two individual tournaments, the ITA Central Section Championships and ITA Conference Masters Championships will be held Nov. 7-10.
- The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships have been moved to the fall and will be contested Nov. 19-24 in Waco, Texas. Players can earn berths into the national championships through the four ITA events in the fall. More information on the pathway to the NCAAs is available HERE.
