
Buckeyes Conclude Non-Conference Play with Win Against Youngstown State

Game Recap
- With one out in the bottom of the first, Henry Kaczmar had the first hit of the game for the Buckeyes, singling to center field. Hunter Rosson was then walked to put two runners on. A fly-out from Tyler Pettorini advanced Kaczmar to third base. On the next play, Rosson stole second and Kaczmar scored on a Penguin throwing error to give Ohio State the early 1-0 lead. Mitchell Okuley and Joseph Mershon drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Rosson scored on a wild pitch to put the Buckeyes up by two, 2-0.
- In the top of the second, the Penguins took a 3-2 lead after an RBI single and a two-RBI single.
- Back-to-back singles from Josh Stevenson and Mason Eckelman in the bottom of the second put two runners on for the Buckeyes and both advanced 90 feet on a passed ball. Isaac Cadena stepped up to the dish next, and he put a double into left center to send both runs home and put Ohio State back in the lead, 4-3. Cadena then scored on a Penguin error to put the Buckeyes ahead, 5-3.
- Joseph Mershon walked to lead off the bottom of the third, followed by a single to right field from Ryan Miller which advanced Mershon to third base. Miller swiped the bag at second and Stevenson walked to load the bases. An RBI groundout from Eckelman plated Mershon and gave Ohio State a three-run lead, 6-3. Cadena was next up, and he singled through the right side, driving in two runs to extend the Buckeye lead, 8-3.
- Okuley led off with a single up the middle in the fourth inning. With two outs, Stevenson doubled to center field to score Okuley and give the Buckeyes a six-run lead, 9-3.
- Cadena was walked to begin the bottom of the fifth, followed by a single from Kaczmar which advanded Cadena to third base. A sacrifice fly from Rosson scored Cadena to put Ohio State in the lead by seven, 10-3. Singles from Pettorini and Okuley loaded the bases and a sacrifice fly from Mershon plated Kaczmar to give the Buckeyes an 11-3 advantage.
- With one out in the bottom of the sixth, Eckelman drew a walk. Pinch hitter Trey Lipsey was then walked. A single from Kaczmar scored Eckelman. Hank Thomas then came in to pinch hit and he singled to send Lipsey home and give the Buckeyes a 10-run lead, 13-3.
- In the top of the seventh, a bases-loaded hit by pitch and a two-RBI single from the Penguins cut the Buckeye lead to seven, 13-6.
- A two-RBI single from the Penguins in the top of the eighth left the Buckeyes leading by five, 13-8.
- Youngstown State led off with a solo home run in the ninth, but the Buckeyes held the Penguins scoreless for the remainder of the inning to come away with the 13-9 win.
- Kaczmar led the Buckeyes in hits with three. Cadena, Okuley and Stevenson each added two hits.
- Cadena batted in a career-high four runs.
- Cadena and Rosson each had two stolen bases. It is a career-high for both players.
- Hunter Shaw (2-2) earned the win on the mound. He fanned four and gave up two earned runs on three hits in 3.0 innings pitched.
- The Buckeyes close out their home schedule with a three-game series against Northwestern Friday, May 10-Sunday, May 12.
