COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team (25-22, 9-10 Big Ten) earned a 7-2 victory over Northwestern (15-31, 2-17 Big Ten) on Friday night to open its series against the Wildcats.

- Tyler Pettorini led off the bottom of the second inning with a single through the right side for the first hit of the game for the Buckeyes. A single from Mitchell Okuley advanced Pettorini to third to put runners on the corners. With the bases loaded after Joseph Mershon was walked, Trey Lipsey reached on a fielder's choice, sending Pettorini home to give Ohio State a 1-0 lead.
- Both teams went scoreless until the top of the fifth inning, when Northwestern tied the game, 1-1, off an RBI single.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Pettorini led off with another single through the right side, followed by a single to left field from Okuley. With two outs on the board, Matthew Graveline stepped up to the dish, and he tripled to right center field to plate two runs and put Ohio State back in the lead, 3-1. A single to right field from Josh Stevenson scored Graveline and a double down the right field line from Isaac Cadena sent Stevenson home to put the Buckeyes ahead by four, 5-1.
- An RBI single from the Wildcats in the top of the eighth inning cut the Ohio State lead to three, 5-2.
- With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Okuley was hit by a pitch to reach base. A single from Mershon sent Okuley to third base and Mershon swiped second on the next play. A double to right center from Lipsey sent both runners and home and added some insurance runs for the Buckeyes, who now led the Wildcats, 7-2.
- The Wildcats went down in order in the top of the ninth, including two swinging strikeouts from reliever Blaine Wynk, to cement the win for Ohio State.
- Pettorini and Okuley led the Buckeyes with two hits each.
- Lipsey had a team-high three RBIs and Graveline batted in two runs.
- Mershon, Lipsey and Stevenson each had one stolen base.
- Landon Beidelschies (5-7) earned the win. He struck out five and gave up one run on seven hits in a career-high 7.0 innings pitched.
- Wynk fanned four and allowed one run on two hits in 2.0 innings of relief.
- The Buckeyes continue their series against Northwestern with games Saturday and Sunday.
