
Buckeyes Earn 12-6 Victory Over Cincinnati

Game Recap
- The Buckeyes took the early lead, getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Trey Lipsey singled to right field and then Henry Kaczmar was walked. Hunter Rosson singled up the middle to drive in Lipsey for the Buckeyes' first run. A groundout from Tyler Pettorini advanced Kaczmar and Rosson into scoring position. Matthew Graveline was plunked by a pitch to load the bases. Joseph Mershon was also hit by a pitch to score Kaczmar and give Ohio State a 2-0 lead.
- The Bearcats answered in the top of the second, getting ahead of Ohio State 5-2 after a sacrifice fly and two two-run home runs.
- In the bottom of the second, Nick Giamarusti was hit by a pitch to reach base and Lipsey drew a walk. A single to center field from Kaczmar and a sacrifice fly from Rosson plated two runs and left the Buckeyes trailing by just one run, 5-4.
- Mitchell Okuley reached base and advanced to second on a Bearcat error to lead off the bottom of the third. A triple from Mershon sent Okuley home to tie the score, 5-5. Mason Eckelman was next at the plate and he gave the Buckeyes the lead, singling to right field to score Mershon. Giamarusti then tripled to center to plate Eckelman and put Ohio State ahead by two, 7-5. Lipsey was walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Rosson stepped up to the dish next and he went yard, sending three runs home to put the Buckeyes ahead, 10-5.
- The Bearcats scored on an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning but Ohio State remained in the lead, 10-6.
- Both teams remained scoreless until the Buckeyes struck again in the bottom of the eighth inning. Pettorini singled to right field to lead things off and then Graveline drew a walk. An Okuley groundout advanced both runners into scoring position. A sacrifice fly from Mershon scored Pettorini and put the Buckeyes back ahead by five, 11-6. Another single from Eckelman sent Graveline home and gave Ohio State a six-run lead, 12-6.
- After the lead-off batter reached base in the top of the ninth, closer Justin Eckhardt struck out the second batter and the Buckeyes turned a double play to end the game and cement the win.
- Pettorini led the Buckeyes with three hits. Rosson, Mershon, Eckelman and Giamarusti each added two hits.
- Rosson, the reigning Big Ten Co-Player of the Week, has hit a home run in four straight games.
- Rosson led the team in RBIs with five, just one short of his career-high. Mershon batted in three runs.
- Chase Herrell (2-1) earned the win on the mound, He struck out a career-high four and allowed one run on two hits in 3.1 innings pitched.
- The Buckeyes are back at Bill Davis Stadium on Wednesday, May 1 when they host Akron at 6:00 p.m.
