
Buckeyes Defeat Spartans, 10-6, in Series Finale

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team (20-20, 7-8 Big Ten) defeated Michigan State (19-21, 7-8 Big Ten), 10-6, in the final game of the teams' three-game series on Sunday.
Game Recap
- The Spartans took the lead in the top of the second inning, getting ahead of the Buckeyes 3-0 after a three-run home run.
- Tyler Pettorini led off with a triple down the right field line in the bottom of the inning. Matthew Graveline was then walked to put runners on the corners for the Buckeyes. A sacrifice fly from Mitchell Okuley scored Pettorini and cut the Spartan lead to two, 3-1.
- With one out on the board in the bottom of the third inning, Trey Lipsey doubled to right field. Henry Kaczmar stepped up to the dish next and he homered over the wall in center field, sending two runs across to tie the score, 3-3.
- In the top of the fifth, the Spartans reclaimed the lead, getting ahead of Ohio State 6-3 after scoring on two Buckeye errors and a groundout.
- Nick Giamarusti was hit by a pitch to get on base in the bottom of the fifth. Another double from Lipsey scored Giamarusti and cut the Michigan lead to two, 6-4. Kaczmar then singled and advanced Lipsey. Lipsey scored on a Spartan error, leaving the Buckeyes trailing by just one run, 6-5. Hunter Rosson doubled to left field, putting both runners into scoring position. An RBI groundout from Pettorini plated Kaczmar to tie the score, 6-6. A bloop single to the Spartan shortstop from Matthew Graveline sent Rosson home and gave Ohio State its first lead of the game, 7-6. A sacrifice fly from Josh Stevenson scored Graveline and gave the Buckeyes a two-run lead, 8-6.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Kaczmar drew a walk to lead off the inning. Rosson was next up and he continued his career-best week, hitting a home run over the center field wall to plate two runs and give Ohio State a four-run lead, 10-6.
- The Buckeye relief pitchers only allowed one Spartan on base for the remaining three innings as Ohio State came away with the 10-6 victory.
- Lipsey, Kaczmar, Rosson, Pettorini and Mershon each had two hits on the day.
- Kaczmar and Rosson led the Buckeyes in RBIs with two each.
- Gavin DeVooght struck out four and gave up six runs on five hits in a 4.1-inning no-decision.
- Blaine Wynk (1-0) earned his first victory on the mound. He struck out two and walked one in 2.2 scoreless innings pitched.
- The Buckeyes host Cincinnati on Tuesday, April 30 and host Akron on Wednesday, May 1.
