SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Ohio State baseball team (6-6) fell to Cal Poly (6-7), 19-2, on Saturday in game two of the teams' four-game series.

- Trey Lipsey singled through the right side to lead off the top of the first inning for the Buckeyes. A single to left center from Henry Kaczmar advanced Lipsey to third base. Matthew Graveline was next up and he grounded into a double play, but it gave Lipsey enough time to score and give the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the second inning, Cal Poly scored on an Ohio State throwing error to tie the score, 1-1.
- The Mustangs took the lead, 4-1, after an RBI single and a two-RBI single in the bottom of the third frame.
- Joseph Mershon legged out a lead-off triple in the top of the fifth. Zach Fjelstad stepped up to the plate next and lined a double down the left field line to score Mershon and cut the Mustang lead to two, 4-2.
- The Mustangs, however, had a monster sixth inning as they took a 16-run lead, 18-2, after two two-RBI doubles, four RBI singles, two two-RBI singles, a bases-loaded hit by pitch and a score on a wild pitch.
- Cal Poly added another run in the bottom of the seventh inning to extend its lead over Ohio State, 19-2.
- With two outs on the board in the top of the ninth, Zach Freeman tripled down the right field line, but it was not enough to overcome Cal Poly as they got the final out to get ahead 2-0 in the series.
- Kaczmar led the Buckeyes with two hits, while Lipsey, Mershon, Freeman and Fjelstad each had one.
- Colin Purcell (1-2) took the loss. He struck out one and gave up four runs on 10 hits in 4.2 innings pitched.
- Andrew Edrington and Noah Williamson each struck out two in appearances out of the bullpen.
- The Buckeyes play two more games at Cal Poly, taking on the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 10 and at 9:00 p.m. ET on Monday, March 11.
