- In the bottom of the sixth inning, the bases were loaded for the Buckeyes after Graveline was walked, Mershon was hit by a pitch and Mitchell Okuley was walked. A single to center field from Trey Lipsey drove in two runs and cut the Hoya lead to two, 6-4.
- Nick Giamarusti and Kaczmar drew back-to-back walks in the bottom of the seventh inning. Graveline hit into a double play, but it advanced Giamarusti to third. Pettorini drew a walk and Mershon was plunked by another pitch to once again load the bases for the Buckeyes. Giamarusti scored on a wild pitch and put the Buckeyes within one run of the lead, 6-5.
- The Hoyas, however, added on two runs in the top of the eighth inning, scoring on an RBI single and an RBI triple to get ahead by three, 8-5.
